Great stuff. Its downright criminal that Azteca never got a title shot nor Langford. One can only imagine what Wildes total tally would have been had they counted some of his earlier fights. Good ole Len Wickwar. Dude fought close to 500 times

Yeah mate, there are a few of them that you'd like too watch they're early fights but they just aren't available

WOW, all this time I thought Moore had the overall KO record. Never even heard of Billy Bird

Some of those old boys records are hilarious. They're having 15 round rematches THREE DAYS after the first fight.

Len Wickwar's near 500 fights happened in just a 19 year career. Floyd has been a pro for 17 years (44 fights)

I knew it would help at least one person Birds knockout ratio is actually below 40% which give you an idea of how many fights he had lol.

Yeah but the quality of boxing is better now. It is probably tougher to have 1 fight with a fighter of today than 5 with a fighter of then.

Nonetheless they didn't know this so the courage is admirable!

And Floyd can make more in one fight (adjusted for inflation of course) than Warwick did in all 500 plus fights or whatever he had.

I'm glad things have improved and guys don't have to fight 500 times anymore. Boxing is a brutal game. Get in, make money, and get out while you can still spell your name.

Err yeah... I was clearly using Floyd as a comparison because he's the best in the world. Those old boys couldn't make what Floyd does for one fight if they had 50,000 let alone 500.

The quality of boxing is better now? You'll get some stern opposition to that view from some quarters. I forget what that guys name is that used to call Haye "13" all the time? Waxed lyrical about the old boys. He disappeard but there are some mega debates on here where he swears blind, among others, maybe even @IamInuit and @Rantcatrat, that boxing has regressed considerably.

Regressed in terms of skill you mean? What would be the cause of that, I wonder?

My opinion isn't based to potential skill, actual skill or understanding of boxing, but purely the conditioning and extreme training nowadays, plus the increased size factor.

You can fit the power and strength of a big man into a little body.

I know Rocky Marciano had a great engine and chin, but he ain't lasting 15 or even 12 rounds for that matter against a decent HW of today.

I'm sorry but he couldn't take the hits from a Wladimir Klitschko that long, like he could against the smaller guys he fought, even if he fought Tyson, Tyson would have had a fairly simple KO.

But then again this is only my opinion.

Apparently reading about something trumps seeing it with your own eyes. And boxing is so complicated that modern people lost the ability to learn and mimic.

Indeed just nuts. Greb fought 49 times in a year and I thing either Otto or Stribling even more. Gans finishes a fight and then jumps on a train all night to meet Langford on the very next day.
