    Default Knee

I have got knackered knees playing football for 30 odd years and was injured July this year. I had been training on non-impact exercises like cross trainer and bike since the injury and my only motivation was to get back playing. I Played football this Sunday at the park with my mates after 4 months off with my £180 predator boots and ran all over the place. Really enjoyed it and scored a quality goal.

Walking back home my knee was hurting and later that evening I could hardly walk on it. I think this is finally it the end of my football career, I am really sad and depressed.

There is hope, without knee replacements.
Injections of your own blood platelets into the knee joints rebuilds your own cartilage, 6 times over 6 weeks.

Funny you'd say that! I'm in the boat I have really bad knees for my age, largely a genetic thing. My dad was one of 7 siblings not to get his replaced before 60ish and that's only because he didn't bother to, he was half crippled for the last few years of his life. I have a medical phobia and fear of needles that would put Manny Pacquiao to utter shame, I was told I had osteoarthritis in my knees but had a few things recommended before I actually need injections, and they have really been helping fingers crossed.
Stretch religiously! try folding a towel really tightly and kneeling with in under the joints for one Master. Never do any serious exercise without warming up and stretching before and after, especially if it's in cold weather. Never EVER run on pavement, some people can handle it but it's fucking brutal if you have joint problems. Take glucosamine, eat lots of green veggies and omega 3's along with that.

i have had several knee operations, last one was last september

i now have grade 2 arthiritus in my right knee, the grading goes to 4 apparently, at grade 2 it is very uncomfortable most of the time

i am waiting on a cortisone injection at the minute, it will be my first

one doctor i saw suggested by the time i am 55 i will need a knee replacement

my injuries were also brought on through playing football, i had to stop at 30 and then took up distance running / triathalon and boxing, all more strain on the knee, i wasnt about to become a fat cunt tho

I've had a cortisone shot in my shoulder....didn't do much for me really, just made my shoulder feel pressure like the joint was surrounded by water or something. It didn't ease the pain or make me feel any stronger or trust that I could smack someone with my shoulder without it causing me great pain.

That's a shame about your knee Master. Getting old isn't for the weak

That is useful information and much appreciated. Sadly I have to go through the NHS system which is slow

I have to go through GP who will try and push me to see a physio (who are cheaper than being referred to a consultant) but they cannot do anything for me.
I will want to be referred to a specialist knee consultant which will take months.
Consultant will then do an X ray when an MRI is required.
    Take another appointment for MRI
Options - do nothing and live with it, steroid injection, arthroscopy surgery
I will take the surgery route and hope it clears it up.

If I could transplant them from Usain Bolt that would be great.

I do not think the NHS provide this.

Hope it improves for you man. Knee pain is brutal! I mashed mine up over the years doing alot of stupid things and over the last few years they seemingly take turns turning up the ache. Start of the year I went down heavy with a big Shepherd and it felt like someone stabbed my kneee with a dull butterknife, every step it felt like it could kick in backwards! As soon as that stopped, the left started going numb?! I better stop complaining though for fear that they will get on the same page one day and I won't have a decent knee to over compensate on Getting old sucks bud.

Knee pain will really f*<k you up. Impedes so much on one's activities, plus the pain wears you down.
Mine was temporary, two times with really bad bursitis, had trouble just walking the stairs in the house, needed a walking stick outdoors. My heart goes out to those where it's chronic and gets worse.

From limping on a bad knee for years and refusing to get any treatment, my pal's other knee and lower back is getting painful now because the years of hobbling off-kilter has thrown the rest of him out of whack.
Oh well, at least he has knees. I have a pal who's been in a wheel chair since I think about 1985, drunken driving, crashed, single vehicle accident, broke his back.

Y'know, since the ufc took off big time in 2005 because of the ultimate fighter tv show, I bet there must be many thousands upon thousands of young idiot teenage boys who've really f*<ked their knees by smashing them into heavy bags and whatnot....

Im 55 my mri showed replacment is the only option left as the cartilage is all but gone and osteoarthritis is there. I was shocked considering what I get up to. They recon its so bad if I want to I could head the public list and be next off the trolley anytime I want to. But they have said doing what I do I would wear the new rails out in 5 years or less and they only get two shots at fixing them then you are on your own so they recon try to stretch my time out because they advance the technology every year as well.
Fish oil in volume is a help. I always thought they cut your whole knee out and bang a new metal joint into either bones. This is bullshit ,they remove al the shit that annoys you from within the join then they screw in titanium rails top and bottom either side of either bone so the rails glide on each other.

I have not done swimming I know it is a good exercise but it is just not convenient.

I have the cross trainer/bike two in one which has built up the muscles of my knees but the real problem is in the knees themselves.

I think I have arthritis in both of them. The right knee has had an ACL operation 2006 and is generally fine, the left knee has no ligament and is weaker which is why I think the bone rubs on the bone and I get the severe pain.

I have a doctors appointment Monday and have to lie to him that the problem was caused by running as they have advised me not to play football.

I do not want to get to a stage where I have to stop the basics such as cycling and cross trainer because of the knee because I would definitely end up obese and die of heart disease.

I really want to play football again and have a laugh with my mates. I do not regret the football I have played loved every second of it.
