I like Alvarado, but I don't think it will work for him. Even if he has cleaned up he is older and I think like you saw with Hatton, alcohol and drugs and age will wear you down even if the heart is still lingering. I wish him well and hope he looks good, but it's a tough ask for him to get back to the top now. You get the sense that with family to provide for boxing is maybe the quickest fix, but it's a big ask.
He sounds FOS. I wish the guy well but that interview sounded manic
TBH, I don't like to be disparaging about any Boxer, but he wasn't that great recently anyway . He was a punchbag against Marquez. What's the point of him coming back ?
Yea dont want to see him back in the ring. He could seriously hurt himself and pretty sure anytime he gets in the ring from now will take years off his life.
I wish the guy well, but his out of the ring lifestyle and his in the ring wars have already taken their toll I think. Its evident by things like that eye. I'm still willing to bet that's not 100%.
Its a great attitude and perhaps he could coach some kids and really do something with it ....but in the ring, I think after someone drops a hammer on him for the first time his heart will scream "get up!" and his body will say "f*ck that..." If he makes a run, save as much money as possible and invest it for the future of his family. Go into commentating. in his post fights, he struck me a fairly eloquent guy for a pug.
They want your @$$ beat because upsets make news. News brings about excitement, excitement brings about ratings. The objective is to bring you up to the tower and tear your @$$ down. And if you don't believe that, you're crazy.

It depends how much of his last fight was down to a crystal meth binge or whatever the hell that was I guess, he looked shockingly bad. I don't think he would have ever beaten any of the 147 contenders so aiming high is not going to bode well for him, but if he's broke then you can't fault him for taking some more fights. He has a fan base and a bit of a name, I'd actually like to see a Prescott rematch. That was a great TV fight and neither of them could hope for anything better.
Sobriety is a great but funny thing. You experience everything from massive amounts of 'new' energy, you save tons of money, find concentration and sometimes spirituality or love, you can even taste you food again! You actually clean the house...sometimes in the A.M and the P.M...and admit the people you screwed over and try to make amends. Sometimes I've heard you even feel bullet proof and have rushes of clear euphoria. Alvarado is right where he needs to be doing what he needs to do. Balanced and truthful and most importantly happy by the sounds of it. I'd hate to see him slog back onto the brutal rollercoaster in the ring. His style and his passion combined for a fiery rise and harder than hell fall and the same cycles that nearly killed him would be very very close all over again. He's kicked heroin, coke or whatever else was strangling his soul and is nearing a year sober. His biggest victory has been secured and I hope he rides off and reaps the bigger rewards.
I wish him the best. He had a couple classic fights with Rios but we all know how bad that last fight was. If he does make a comeback, I'd be pleased, always liked him.
The least surprising news ever. The ring is probably the safest place for him.
Yes and I think the thought that may also be lurking in the back of our heads is that last fight with Rios. If Rios looked good beating him and then looked that wilted against bradley. What could the future possibly hold for Alvarado when you factor in other stuff like the Marquez beating, substance abuse, etc.

Can't forget the prod fight either. Anyone remember his post fight interview after that one. He was completely wiped out, crying and didn't even want to do the interview. I've worked with many addicts in my job, both inpatient and outpatient. I'm on the east coast us and the primary drug of abuse here is opiates. They have an extremely low recovery rate but mybstudies have told me meth is even harder to kick. Any addict can recover but it is not an easy task. There was also talk of gang affiliation with Alvarado and heavy police presence at the last Rios Alvarado fight due to affiliation with opposing gangs.I guess its hard to shake the streets but when Alvarado has his wits about him he seems like an intelligent nice guy.
