Something comfortable. I have a couple mouthguards, one is the single top fitting boil-and-bite, and the other is the double fitting.
I found a regular cheap mouthguard is fine. What you don't want is have something in your mouth that distracts you. Just try one and see what works for you.

My mouthguard was fitted by a dentist which i really like to the point where I put it on earlier before I fight than I have to just because it's comforting (yes I have issues).
I pay a monthly rate for private health cover which pays for a large portion of this so it wasn't an expensive thing for me to get.
For some reason I could never get other mouthgurads to fit properly and stay in - probably something I was doing wrong when I was trying to mould it.
The one I have has never ever fallen out.

Has anyone ever told you that so finicky? I wonder what your parents had to go through...
Anyways, I wonder if my dentil covers something like that... It's something worth being persnickety about.![]()

Most of the dentist made mouth-guards are impossible to pull out. I've given up on it, and they're so tight and formed that it doesn't matter anyway. I just give the fighters water and they keep them in between rounds. The only thing I can suggest from the do-it-yourself guards is to not trim too much from the back. The further back the better. It will save your jaw.

Yep - my coaches don't bother taking mine out anymore either and I prefer it otherwise I tend to get my gums scratched if they try.
I am finicky but I have 2 older brothers and a younger brother so growing up I pestered them instead of my parents. Still I think a lot of people develop pre-competition routines/ traditions that work well for them.
Although I know you need to be able to adjust to change too which I'm not good at. For example travelling to an interstate comp with a team and getting there early throws me a bit. Having a week without my normal work/study allows me to stew on an upcoming competition and get too nervous because I'll usually try to distract myself with work. My routine is better for small local shows where everything happens over a weekend.

I can imagine them then, "We don't have time for that. Why don't you pester your brothers..." You should thank your bros next time you see them, tell them that because of all that you can better cope in a Man-Sport like boxing.
I must your polar opposite then, because I find I love the chaos that comes for boxing, it's not your regular day in and day lifestyles. Sometimes I become a bundle of nerves but what helps is just getting up and doing something even when everyone else isn't on the same page as me. The only problem of mine is I have trouble staying in touch with people whether they are good friends of mine or my own flesh and blood.
I guess what you need is a constant that you can take with. Some can just blot it out in there minds, you on the other hand need to loosen up, maybe a distraction could help after all.

I have to trim a a little off the back of mine, if not I get that gagging feeling you feel when something's in the back of your mouth. Is anyone familiar with this?Originally Posted by oldtownboxing

I have the same problem I usually have to trim a mouth piece a couple of times before it feels right.Originally Posted by Chris N.

Yes older bros are probably the reason i didn't turn into a 'real girl' as my male team mates would say. Although I pity my little sister who is much girlier than me and could have done with someone who knew how to teach her to use a hair dryer.
As for trimming back of the mouthguards I'm not sure you would have to do that with a dentist fitted one - maybe worth checking out? Anyone here a dentist?

You're a real lady alright, you just didn't turn out to a little miss princess-- which can be a good thing...
Say for instance, some cheesy nice guy comes up to you and tries to strike up some small talk like say, "that's a nice purse you got" You can test to see if he isn't your average momma's boy, just say "Your point is?" or something else and watch them crash and burn. Sympathy is for the weak, and the little sugar princesses out there.
I'm no dentist although I've in the business of rearranging smiles. I've heard that the dentist made mouthguards can be pretty tight. How hard is it to take out your mouth piece?

I've never had any problems taking out my mouthguard myself.
It's not easy fro someone else to though. Still I'm not sure how much of that is an individual thing. Perhaps other people have differently structured gums/ teeth and have more difficulty?
I've had the same one for about 7 years now too so it possibly was tighter when I first got it.

Maybe you need to educate them on the proper technique on removing Sharla's mouthpiece.
I guess other than that it grows on you after a while, kinda like a pair of boots that you hafta break in.
