and this is the hook that attaches to a wall (i used a wooden stud) and the pulley and the handle.

if you print these out and go to your hardware store, they'll help you find all the parts, which shouldn't cost you more than $30 (US) in total.

this is the overall view again...

i did modify the part where the weight plates go so now they're easier to put on and take off.

    a couple notes...

the "black iron pipe" is all 1/2" thick tubing. the pulleys are heavy duty and rated at 420lbs. The cable (called "wire rope" or "aircraft cable") is 3/16" vinyl coated (for smooth pulling) and rated at (I think) about 800lbs. You'll need pro'bly about 15' of cable and 4 clips to secure the loops for the handle and the weight plate T unit.

Nice set up. That handle looks different than the one that you showed in your video. Make sure that when you are doing the exercises to keep track of the how much repetitions or pace in the time that you are down there. You might have more success with higher weight and partial reps. Bruce Lee experimented with that in conjuction with isometrics. Theres lots of good articals on the subject.

It pays to understand how to make things like that. You know that this idea has been around for years almost as old as bare knuckle boxing in the US.

Thanks Heaps Von! This is a huge help - I'm not practically minded enough with this kind of thing to set up something like this myself without instructions and I don't think many people are - if I were you I'd be proud of this kind of resourcefulness.

well hey, what can I say! thanks! cc.

I actually got the idea to use black iron pipe like this from two places. 1. Years ago my dad made me a hockey net out of it and 2, some of the guys on rossboxing.com (yeah, I go there from time to time use the stuff for homemade weight handles. The pulley system itself, I just kept thinking, there's gotta be a way to do this, if I connect this here and that there... etc. Honestly, I didn't really hit me until after a bit of thought. My original idea was to use tapcons to anchor it to my basement concrete wall. ( me = idiot!)

You did good, CC. And a nice thing you did for Sharla by the way.

Right now my dad's helping build me a hand gripper, it's similar to the one Bruce Lee used. Just like your pulley system I'm sure you were blown away by the prices of similar equipment. I looked up the price for what online sellers were putting the grip machine at and a lot the prices were over 200 bucks!

Anyways my birthday is coming up on this 28th, so I was able to talk my dad into making me one. How cool is that, I'll post pictures when it's ready.
