Default Did you know (Von's big idea revealed...)

that the key to a hard, fast jab is to work the muscles that propel the ELBOW. When you figure out EXACTLY which ones they are, you're home free.

I MIGHT put a new vid on youtube. But I'm not suite sure if I want to give away the secret to the masses.

That's part of it. A hard jab is more than fast hands and a good stiff arm, more power can begotten out of putting your body in motion. Take a look at the boxing manual I just posted.

On the subject regarding punching power I got to say that power is lost in the joints. The wrist, elbow, shoulder, knees, ankles, etc. Proper alignment, good weight shifts and physical conditioning can help. As you can imagine a strong bicep can prevent power from exiting from the elbow, a strong tricep and shoulders can help maintain the power line at the moment of contact. Even muscles in the hips, back and legs have a key point when it comes to punching power. In Kinesiology (the study of human biomechanical movement) agonists may be the key movers, but agonists play a big part and in regards to boxing they prevent you from losing more power.

There's a particular jab for every situation. You should never just throw just one kind of jab, predictability is what a good fighter can kayo everyday of the week. Now a jab can disrupt, set up, and open doors where there were only walls. Anyone that hasn't developed an arsenal of jabs is really selling themself short.

That pulley machine you got can help. A good exercise that Scrap can vouch on is plyometrics, in this case ones that stress the elbow joints and the surrounding muscles. One example is explosive plyometric pushups, their are other plyometric exercises I could mention that involve barbell, heavybag and medicine balls.

I'd like to get back to what I said about power getting lost in the joints. In regards to the elbow joint you can either smother the arm which cuts off it's range of motion and effective range, or move into the punch in some cases to capitalize in a big bend of the elbow. This can set up a last resort counter, or get in you in the infight; however obviously with slipping or shifting you can avoid the punch all together.

I don't mind, I wished all the guys that I'd face would do it. It really asks for a hard-left hook or right hand counter. One fun thing to do is to just slap their hand down and nail them in their moment of surprise.

jabs can come from a variety of angle, but they all have the elbow in common.

and chris, pushups can help, but there's something better...for the elbow!!
