Re: Concussion and Whiplash????
It's a shame but this same thing happens to a lot of guys. It should be the trainer's job to put you in the ring with a guy that's better than you, but not a guy looking for an ego boost. That being said get a good sparring partner and go to another gym to find one if you have to. With a good sparring partner or with someone that is very skilled with the focus mitts/pads go over the correct responses. Now a nice good sparring partner won't be looking to knock you out, they shouldn't go for the sweet spots, the chin and quick finish. They should keep you alert and on your guard at all times.
Like I said learn the correct responses. What are you going to do about your opponent's jab, right... How are you going to move, etc, etc. There's a book that goes over many of the different situations that you'll have to face and will tell you a lot of good responces. The book is called 'Boxing' by Edwin L. Haislet, and you can download it for free in the 'Useful / Important Posts' subsection under the topic 'Boxing History and Rincraft.' You should also check out greynotsoold's posts which you also find in the same section.
There's truth in that overused saying, "Protect yourself at all times!"
If you hear a voice within you saying that I am not a painter, then by all means paint and that voice will be silenced.
