Default Fighters you root against, and why (state your case)

Was just reading a thread where a poor newbie got ganged up on for making fun of a few fighters. Kind of felt sorry for him, and I hope he keeps coming back. It’s our nature to disagree about boxers and boxing in general, and you shouldn’t get pummeled for it.

What prompted me to start this thread was the argument over Nikolay Valuev. I saw some compelling arguments on both sides, and I just couldn’t resist. But I think we should all be able to state our opinions freely and without fear of ridicule or abuse (as long as we don’t offend anyone). So I thought this would be a fun thread. Let me kick it off by stating my case against Valuev:

Nikolay may very well be able to beat 95 or 99% of the heavyweights out there today. But I don’t like watching him, and I’ll root against him at every fight. Why? Well, he may be a nice guy and all that, but there’s a couple of reasons why he’s so dominant and none have to do with his ability:

    1. He’s HUGE.

C’mon, if I stood 7 feet tall and outweighed all my opponents by over 100 pounds, I’d be pretty dominant, too. Why is this guy even a heavyweight? There should be another division for him. “Heavyweight” should not be an open-ended division. As I’ve said before, how competitive would a Pacquiao be against a Pavlik?

    2. The HW division is not that good.

Some would like to argue that it is. But face it, it’s just wishful thinking. Most of us long for the days when the Alis, Tysons, and Lewises ruled the division. But right now, that’s just not the case. So being able to beat 99% of a mediocre division? Kind of like being the best player on a last place team.

    Finally:

Although this next statement will no doubt bother die-hard Valuev fans, I gotta say it: The man has limited skills. I’ve seen some of his fights. He should be able to do so much more with that size. In a way, I’m glad he’s not that good. If he was halfway decent, he would have cleaned up the HW division by now… including Wlad. And then it’d be boring, watching the next sacrificial lamb thrown in against someone twice his size.

So…. what fighter do you root against, and why?

Zab Judah: Cos of his shit talk, his antics after the Tszyu fight, and the fact he keeps getting to fight the big names even tho he hasnt had a good win in years.

As you guys probably know i really hate Joe Calzaghe ,
alot of it stems from his early interviews were he constantly used to say

" They just cant take my power "
then rather funnily many did take his power and go 12 rounds

he was a cocky twat and its his whole persona , i wouldnt root for Calzaghe againest anyone.

He is a good fighter for sure , i just dont like him.

Glenn Johnson, whinging cunt who can never be on the wrong end of a close decision, it happens Glenn, get over it.

Edison Miranda and Ricardo Mayorga. Too much lip and get whacked out at the top end.

Carl Froch. Talks like he's a world beater, we still dont know if he is or not.

Im sure I'll think of more.
When God said to the both of us "Which one of you wants to be Sugar Ray?" I guess I didnt raise my hand fast enough

Miguel Cotto, just because everybody else practically worships him. The fact that he is Puerto Rican doesn't help.

I always root against Mayweather. Now, I am not a hater. I see with my own eyes the amazing skill he has. But there is something about him as a boxer that I suspect is lacking and I think it is his chin. For years I suspected that of Roy Jones ever since Lou del Valle dropped him, but Roy's defense was so good that none was able to test his chin until Tarver and Johnson came along. I think it's the same with Mayweather. No one will be able to test his chin as long as he keeps fighting the Gatti's the Baldomirs the fading de la Hoyas, who doesn't commit to his punches as he used to.

Zahir Raheem- boring as fuck, his fights consist of twelve rounds of hugging and falling down. Also was ridiculously overrated after the Morales fight. I don't really remember anybody agreeing with me back then when I said that Pac would beat him, he was really overrated. Mostly its just that he's boring.

Daniel Ponce de Leon- I am now a huge Juan Manuel Marquez fan. I can't stand plodding one punch at a time guys who rely pretty much solely on power.

Rocky Juarez- See reason I don't like Ponce

Sam Peter- See reason I don't like Ponce and Rocky Juarez.

I could go on a few more, but that's good enough. The main thing is I simply don't like boring fighters, I care much less about what kind of person they are outside the ring (not that you can tell what's real and what's an act anyway). If you're obnoxious and get on my nerves outside the ring that doesn't help but its not the be all, end all.

There's very few fighters I constantly root against, or for. I usually root for a fighter based on the potential matchup a win for that fighter may make. If it weren't for the potential Pavlik-Abraham match, I would've rooted for Miranda last weekend, but a win for Abraham helps the chances of a Pavlik-Abraham fight.

Whom I do root against is Nicolay Valuev. I want to see a small heavyweight knock him out. I want to see Valuev fall down to the canvas hard. It would be a sight to see such a big man crumble. Sort of like Mike White.

I root against Joe Calzaghe as I just don't like him.

I'll root against Vitali Klitschko if he ever makes it to the prize ring again, just so I can troll on other message boards and make his delusional fans mad.

I used to always root against Antonio Tarver, but I don't really care anymore. What annoyed me was his overrated performance in the first Roy Jones fight and how he cried about being robbed, when if anything, he robbed himself by being too inactive and staring at Roy in the middle of the ring for large stretches of the fight, worried about Roy's countering (and especially his bodywork).
