Since Lennox Lewis retired the divison has hit an all time low. All four champs are terrible and would have been ko'd into next week had they fought some of the champs in the mid 90's. There have been dull eras before in this divison notably the early 80's before Iron Mike came along but nothing like this. There arent even any top contenders (maybe Vitali) Toney (blown up), Rahman (Rubbish), Peter (overated perhaps). We desperately need another Iron Mike to come in and clean up the divison and get rid of these losers. is there any Americans coming through the ranks with potential ?

Keep an eye out for Tye Fields and Chazz Witherspoon, both need to step-up the competition though.

theres too many titles. Boxers can lose one fight for one title then a few fights later win another. thats why the champions are so bad.

Too right they need to step up their competition...but where is this competition they need to step up too? Calvin Brock? because really there are only three levels of hw at the moment. There's terrible, there's mediocre andc there's average, and anyone who is average has their mitts on a belt, or is soon to challenge for a belt.

it's not as shite as it was. we just need some unification fights to take place, the champs are fuckin about to much and fighting more and more bums. wlad and shannon briggs are exciting fighters and with vitali coming back things are looking up. samuel peter is a good contender and i dont think he's overrated really, he deserves a shot.

I really don't understand what these promoters are doing with their prospects. There are a bunch of big guys with more than 20 wins and awesome records that have fought decent competition but you don't hear of them. Tye Fields is 38-1 with 34 KOs has KOed fighters that have also fought Vitali and Toney but you don't hear of him. Why?? These promoters need to push some of their young talent harder. When Hasim "Getting Older With No Desire" Rahman was viewed as one of the stars of the division, why the hell can't some of these young prospects be pushed harder?

I actually think the state of the heavyweight division is improving. At least we have unification in sight now. Granted there are no all time greats but there are still loads of exciting fights out there.

Both the Peter Toney fights were entertaining, Valuev is a major attraction whether you like him or not, a fight between him and either Klitschko would be massive literally!

And for how crap it is supposed to be I bet virtually every fan on this site can name twice as many heavyweights as they can fighters of any other division.

It's still the flagship division, in a slump for sure but it's getting better.
