    Default DVD Encoding Error? (HELP!)

Last week I bought a 4 DVD box set of old Peter Walker movies. Including were: House Of Whipcord
    The Flesh & Blood Show
    Die Screaming Marieanne
    Frightmare

The other night I was watching Frightmare and around the halfway point (Starting at chapter 9) the dvd coding screws up and the film is nothing but green and blurry pixels. Is there anything I can do to battle this besides playing the whole "exchange" game. The hassle of doing an exchange will cause me to be a nervous wreck.

    Well two other options.

It oculd be possible using img burn to decrypt the disc onto your harddrive. Decrypting it may override the error as it can take as many tries as it likes to get it onto your hard disc.

I bought a Simpsons series boxset once and one of the discs locked and I was able to decrypt it this way and it worked fine once burned off again.

The other option is just downloading the film off the net.

If the film is this 1974 Frightmare you can download it here.

    HORROR HOUSE: Frightmare (1974)

If you don't have a rapidshare account just pm me and I'll give you my login details so you can download it.

If you have a decent speed broadband it should only take about 20 minutes.

Bilbos way may work, but I think decrypting only removes the copy protection...

    I would do this(it may sound a bit complicated,but it isn't):

1.Download and install a tool called AnyDVD...if its running any DVD copy protection will be ignored...really great tool...

2.Download and install a tool called IsoBuster...

3.Put the DVD that makes problems in your DVD drive and start IsoBuster...
Use IsoBuster to rip the DVD to your harddrive...Now if there is indeed something wrong IB will open a message window and tell you that some bits are fukked up and give you 3 options how to overwrite this(I can't remember all three options, but one was something with zeros(00) overwriting that didn't work for me)...

If the errors aren't to extensive...this should work...now you have the disc on your harddrive and can copy it to disc again...

It removes the copyright encryption so it can back it up and then be burned off.

It transfer the whole film to the harddrive from where you can watch it straight off the computer using power dvd or the like, or burn it off with Nero or whatever burning program you use and then watch it on your dvd player.

Yes I knew that(thats why I use anyDVD),but if the DVD is damaged this won't work...that why I advised using IsoBuster, because it overwrites the damaged part...

    Thanks men!

I will have to decide which method I want to try.

BTW, that is the film, Bilbo.

CloneDVD is my favorite.. I've burnt 1000's on it and it has never failed to get past any encryption... It does occasionally come up with a warning saying that it is encrypted and you would be braking the law to burn it, so you just hit okay and it burns anyway.

It's quick and really easy to use, and has a funny sheep logo on the icon i.e. (the cloned sheep)... very good..

When i've had problems playing original DVD's in my player I always try burning them and then playing the burnt copy.. I find the computer DVD player is better at reading discs than the actual ones plugged into the tv, and hence it can burn a better copy for you.. Even for scratched discs it can eliminate a lot of the skipping.

I'd try that and see how your copy goes, it's not perfect but if that fixes it at least you have a working copy of the movie you paid for, without having to send it back.
Also have you tried playing it in your computer up to that scene and see if it plays on there?

Damn I missed that, I shall be extra vigilant from now on. I hate spelling mistakes and improper punctuation. Makes a person look like a blathering idiot........
