Didn't you remember the story on fightnews where Sam Peter won the belt from him in a street fight in downtown Youngstown, Ohio? I believe it was on the undercard of the Tyson/Sanders war.

There is nothing like a bit of quality journalism eh

KO magazine and Ring magazine (and rightly so) don't acknowledge the WBO. Peter's there cuz he's considered the # 1 contender.

So essentially what you're saying is that there is still no American Heavyweight world championholding a recognised belt? Poor old Shannon, especially as he had to go all those 12 rounds to get it as well....

I thought you mean't the Holyfield article where the author makes some remark about someone not being able to carry Marvin Root's jockstrap. I'm guessing he meant either Jack Root or Marvin Hart.

For some reason I don't feel sorry for Shannon. But he can still milk the title for some thing. Calzaghe and Margarito have been milking there garbage WBO title for years

And yet that didn't stop them from awarding Calzaghe the ring belt.

THey did not award him the ring belt, he fought jeff lacy for the vacant ring belt.

    Either 1 & 2 or 1 & 3- they allow 1 & 3 to fight for vacant titles if there is very little disparity between 2 & 3.

Right. So even though the ring doesn't recognise the WBO it still had Calzaghe ranked in a position to take their title?

Logic??!!?!?!? You can't argue on the basis of logic, it has to be all down to some old American pundits and writers and their opinions. Calzaghe's first title shot in their view was for the ring belt. Totally mkes sense.
