Roy should have retired after the Ruiz fight, and even more-so now

It is about time. If he doesn't want to go away on a defeat, he could always make one or 2 more easy fights, win them and go for real but no more solid fights, too dangerous for him.

I wish Jones had retired after the Tarver KO, i think pride and ego got in the way of sound thinking. He looked at Hopkins who is older and still fighting well and he really believed he could do the same, the difference being Hopkins remained at 160lb for his entire career until recently when he has been chasing the big bucks. The point is Hopkins has never altered his body as much as Jones did in going up to fight Ruiz. Nobody has knocked out Hopkins either like Jones was against Tarver, he should retire. Losing to Green in 2 mins is unbelievable, Jones looked well out of place against Green who simply looked a beast against him. To hear that Hopkins still wants Roy Jones jr is a sad reflection on the sport of boxing when we have a super year coming up in 2010.

Roy is not the greatest of all time by far...

Roy should have left after the Johnson loss...The Tarver loss fine I understand everyfighter does not want to believe it is over but the Johnson loss should have nailed it for him....

At worst tough bouts against guys like Hanshaw should have told him...

RJJ should have left after the Ruiz fight OR after the first Tarver fight just because #1 Roy won that fight and #2 he had nothing left to prove.

I say Roy needs 1 fight maybe even an "exhibition" bout (gloryfied sparring) in Pensacola and then hang up the gloves...it would be great if one of his sons was ready to turn pro and fought on the same card. You can't go out on a loss after a career like Roy has had.

But yes he does need to retire

I can only imagine how difficult it is for a fighter of that caliber to let go of what they do best. As a fan it is very difficult to let Roy go. He was such a special talent. So I can only imagine the struggle it must be to finally walk away forever. But this is not golf and it is vital that fighters go when it is time and delay in no lengthy kind of way. Roy's departure is long overdue and I hope he remains healthy in retirement.

Well if I was him I'd look at a couple old timers that stayed in the game too long and if I was a young boxer I'd use RJJ as an example to stop when you're at the top...although in some cases it cause people to question you Mr. Lennox Lewis for example, although he retired with dignity he also ran away from a very dangerous rematch, smart yet cowardly





but of course at this point in time Roy should just retire MAYBE have a homecoming fight and go out on a win but he should retire

Some guys just love the limelight, and i guess Roy is one of them. These are the guys who seem to find it hardest to quit.

He was on his way to beating Klit anyway, as the last two rounds of the fight would tell you!

i actually thought Vitali was coming on and turning the tide, and Lennox although a very good fighter in his prime, he was also smashed with ease in his prime by lesser smaller opponents
