Default in defence of a fellow hammer

Cant talk much right now as im too incapable of posting due to alcohol, but...

Rob green deserves some sympathy, that ball is a fricking floater ball and the pitch was average at best.

The very people who are now claiming that a west ham boy cost us last night may i please direct you to 1966 and the very club who the only reason england have 1 world cup win are to be thanked for..............

It's just a shame that that was over 50 years ago isn't it!

I must admit that I originally blamed the ball more than the goalkeeper, but I was out of my mind. I moved away from the that position, but yesterday I saw a game where a goalkeeper conceded what seemed to me an all too easy goal. It had echoes of this. Maybe it wasn't all the keepers fault and the ball is dodgy, but it was a weak shot that really should have been kept out.

Do you mean the first Germany goal? If so, that ball was travelling at 88 mph! So can understand the keeper not keeping it out!

Not the daisy cutter that Green couldn't get his body behind.

think he is refering to the goal slovenia scored over algeria. Seemed like bread and butter for the keeper and it just seemed to die on him and swerve right at the end

No, the Algeria/Slovenia game. It looked like the keeper was in slow motion or something. It didn't look like it should have gone in to me. Something slightly off about it.

Nothing to do with the ball, Green just lost his ar$e, plain and simple. He was a centremetre away from having another howler that would've ended his career.

That said, I rate him as avery good keeper, just think only 9 starts aint enough experience for this level.

Don't think it will end his international career like it did to Scott Carson and Richard Wright

Yeah, I'm thinking the ball might be a little defective. It doesn't excuse the keeper making such a mistake because it was his fault, but I think we might see a few goals in this tournament where keepers are going to miss something they shouldn't. If the ball isn't completely consistant with previously used balls then sometimes a misreading is going to occur. There were criticism's of the ball before the tournament began, it was half expected.

Only saving grace for green is that capellos hands are pretty much tied and he has to back his original choice now.

James obviously aint up to it and cant seem to get himself match fit, throwing in a rookie like joe hart would be a disaster waiting to happen

    Team for algeria:

    Green
    Carragher, Terry, Dawson, A Cole
    Gerrard, Carrick, Lampard, J Cole
    Heskey, Rooney

TBH, I don't really understand why Emile Heskey is still around. It puzzles me a fair bit.

Capello seems obsessed. The alternatives such as crouch, carlton cole, darren bent etc were never given a fair crack at the whip and capello now has to stick with emile or change it up right at the very crucial stage.

Crouch offers you something different but you have to get him into the game rather than heskey who can pick up the ball from midfield and allow rooney to play that floating role

Yeh, we deffo have to chnage the shape and Carrick is the only candidate for the holding roll until Barry is back.

Assuming everybody that is still therewas fit, this would be my team

    ----------------James-------------

    ----Johnson----Terry---King-----Cole

    ----------------Barry--------------

    -------Gerard----Lampard-------J.Cole

    ---------------Heskey Rooney-------
