    Default Antonio Taver as a Commentator?

    I have to say I am very impressed with his observations, logic, style and tone of commentary. He's always but always on point and for a perceived 'loud-mouth', he certainly knows how to slide his points in with considerable (and admirable) class.

    I was never really a fan of the commentary that comes from the HBO team but Showtime are a delight to listen too. I look forward to hearing more observations from Tarver, I really do.

    I don't always agree with him, but think he is a breath of fresh air to the commentary team. I think the Showtime team is spot on right now. HBO has become a bit meh with Lampley becoming a bit of a caricature and Kellerman has never really impressed me. I've always been a fan of Merchant, but he seems to be being pushed out bit by bit. Showtime seems the more together right now and you can't argue with the kind of card we got last weekend. HBO looked a bit lame up against that.

    Never could stand listening to Tarver before or after a fight.

    BUT..... he's good as a commentator. Well spoken, knows boxing, and he doesn't become a distraction. Hope he keeps it up.

    I think tarver is a great commentator...i'd rather hear him than almost any of the guys on hbo. He should give up this silly i'ma be heavyweight champion crap and keep his shirt on and stay behind the mic, he's good at it.

    i actually like Tarver as a commentator, wasn't Jones commentating on HBO Saturday night? IMO HBO should just hire Jones back full time

    Some of the worst boxers or the ones you hate end up being good commentators such as Johnny Nelson.

    He's solid and equally capable on camera. Fluid and concise but not over bearing and ge does not repeat himself. Certainly won't be hearing some comic book Lampley crap .... BAM BAM....BAM BAM BAM

    I'm with you, I think he's doing a fantastic job. When you have a guy with as much experience and knowledge of boxing as Tarver has, who can also speak coherently and intelligently, then I think you have an asset to any commentary team.

    I love Tarver; he lights me up.
    I feel he's unbiased.
    I feel he's pragmatic-he's been in there;
    he knows what he's talking about, no? Of course.
    He's clean-cut. He's got appropriate personality-nothing SPECTAC-
    but he's professional....
    Tarver's a bit of alright.

    The Showtime team is complete with Tarver. I don't like him as a fighter but as a commentator he is good. Unbiased and knows everything there is to know about the fight game.

    I just hope they pay him enough as a commentator that he doesn't have another attempt at heavyweight.
