Default Is it me or is Pacs performance Saturday a little overrated??

I don't want to take anything away from Pac on Saturday, he gave the arsehole cheating scumbag Margarito a beating he deserved, but to me it was expected really. I gave Marg a slight chance due to his ability to take a shot and keep coming and his clear size advantage, but in reality I expected Pac to dominate as Marg is a fighter who just walks you down and keeps coming through whatever is thrown and that is what Pac thrives on. Oscar De La Hoya can be forgiven for using those tactics as no one really expected Pac to carry the power through the weights as he did but everyone after him, with the exception of Clottey (who didn't fight back) and Cotto in very short spurts when he got up on his toes and boxed and actually gave Pac something to think about, have just tried to overmatch Pac with size and every time it is clear it won't work because of his handspeed and power.

Lets face it, the last time anyone caused Pac any REAL trouble was Marquez and that is because he is a true thinking fighter and he waited for Pac to come to him and make mistakes and capitalised with his counter punching brilliance. Now I know this is starting to sound old but there is someone even better at using these tactics than Marquez and that is Mayweather and should they fight each other in 2011 I really do expect it to be soemthing of a one sided beating with Mayweather dropping no more than 3 rounds. For me he is tailor made to beat Pac.

Anyway enough of Mayweather as this thread is not about him and maybe I am being a little harsh in the title of the thread, maybe I should have said that the outcome was Unsurprising due to the nature of Pacs opponent but that wouldn't get peoples attention the same lol. All I am trying to say is all these fighters who keep trying to put the pressure on Pac and are walking onto a barrage of fast hard punches should really be learning now that it is not the way to beat him.

Am I on my own in thinking this?

Do agree with you that Margo was the perfect, if not, handpicked opponent for Manny. But I wasn't expecting a one sided beat down last Sunday morning (for us in the Philippines). Specially after hearing Margo was packing 17 pounds heavier than Manny. Even if the devil in me was shouting hurrahs after each round Margo was being beaten, I thought it would have been competitive until at least the first few rounds. I'd figure Margo would be his usual come forward guy but that didn't happen. He seems more shell shocked than his usual self. Dunno if that's because of pac's punches or whatever. But it really wasn't the Margo I was expecting. I don't blame him though, judging from the looks of his face after the fight.

But for me the Margo that night was the same, if not, a better Margo back when he fought Cotto. The Mosley fight, he got fuxxed up in the brain. Bottom line for me though is Pac earned his due that night for fighting a game, lively, well conditioned and gigantic opponent in Margo. Just that the come forward style was not the best thing to do against manny. But right now, I don't know. Just want the manny pbf fight to happen.

It was a good fight and performance. The most entertaining fight of the night. I went over to my buddy's house and watch the fight, he had no regrets buying it.

Much better, entertaining, and more dominating than that god awful main event match in England.

THe one thing I keep on seeing with Pacquiao is that laced between all the brilliant things he does are glaring holes, now his warrior spirit, amazing condition, and unbelievable speed give him ways of getting around these where he is seemingly defenseless, unfocused, and regouping. However I think it's evident that there is a lot of improvement still to be made with him. Pacquiao has learned how to punch with the whole body, and that gives him amazing power and speed when he is throwing combinations which he learns from how he and Roach do pads, and how he hits the heavy. The problem comes when he needs to sharp shoot an opponent from far away. Against a mobile opponent ie. Marquez II, Barrera II Pacquiao really had difficulties boxing on the outside, and though I felt he won both fights there wasn't his trademark combinations and high level pace. They basically took away with a little footwork in more than one direction. We've seen that despite their immense skill that MArquez and Barrera aren't really true boxers as much as boxer punchers, and their ability to box still relies on them to really set themselves and land hard punches in order to keep their opponent on the defensive. However we have honestly not seen Pacquiao to my knowledge against a pure counter puncher with speed and movement. I'm guessing he would likely almost all of them, but it would be interesting to see somebody like that go against his style of fighting because of the reasons I mentioned. I think he would do better against a guy like Leonard maybe than a guy like Whitaker or Benitez simply because Leonard would make the same mistake almost everyone else does and he would try to trade with Manny as soon as Manny landed something. I think Benitez well trained or Whitaker would actually take the time to figure out where Pacquiao's weaknesses are. Duran would also been interesting opponent for Manny because he was similar to Hatton but a harder puncher, better chin, and harder to hit though maybe a little slower. He would have been able to keep the fight more on the inside where Manny wouldn't have the same power or use of his combinations, I am not talking at punching range like Margarito had him, but right in close.

Maybe..if you say that it was the greatest performance of all time.

He fought him( Marg) like there was no size disparity. 6'2 Paul Williams did not come close to what Manny Pacquiao did to Margarito who had additional 3lbs.

The ratings from the journalists are fine IMO.

His performance last saturday was expected indeed. He didn't really shocked the world. But it's was like watching a good movie sequel. You kinda know what's gonna happen but you still get amazed after watching it.

Sick of that f'n expression! Seriously, Manny's style will beat 85% of other styles and make them look "Made for him"... The fight was made because after Pac beat DLH, he wanted the biggest challenge out there, and at the time, that was Margarito.... After beating Cotto, he looked unstoppable, and no one would be saying he's "handpicked" or "Tailor Made" for Pac... Also the fight could be made very easy as it was with Arum, would make money, no negotiation drama etc etc...

People are saying Clottey was "hand picked" for Pac.. Well him and Margarito and Cotto all have different styles.. Completley different. Clottey has tight defence and solid base, Margarito constantly comes forward, And cotto uses his smarts and counters, along with good body work/strength... Then Hatton is a little bit different again...
But of course, they were all "hand picked for Pac's style"... No, Pac is just too f'n good for them.. To much better..

If someone can't match Pac's speed, then he was "hand picked for his lack of speed".
If someone can't handle Pac's combo's he was "hand picked for his poor headmovement/leaky defence"
If someone can't handle Manny's pressure coming forard, he was "hand picked for Pac to run straight through him"
If someone charges forward trying to run over Pac, They were "hand picked for him to smash when they were on the way in"...

Seriously, do you not get what's going on here??

Well, actually maybe you do, so i'll give you a challenge??

Aside from JMM because of their past, and Mayweather because he is a super human freak of nature,,,,, who the f!uck you would pick for Manny??
Bare in mind, this MUST be someone who doesn't have a single attributes that is perfect for Manny to exploit and defeat?

(Because that would mean someone will say they were "Handpicked" for Pac to beat..)

Sorry buddy.. I'll CC you after this.. it's nothing personal.. I've heard tonnes of people say handpicked regarding Pac and Mayweather fights, and I just exploded on you when I read that word in your post.. But this is to all the people who keep saying handpicked, when it's just 95% of styles can't match a truly excelent fighter like Pac or Mayweather..

No. He dominated a good fighter who had a 17lb weight advantage. And that's on the back of dominating De La Hoya, Hatton, Cotto and Clottey.

    Mosley did the job...

    Quicker
    with a Ko
Didn't weight drain marg with a catch weight
Marg was on a winning streak
Marg hadn't had a severe beating at some point in his last 5 fights

This fight should have been stopped around the 9th round anyway

The result should have been a TKO

So Margarito wasn't weigh-drained at 147 but he was at 150?

Margarito was only on a 3 fight winning streak, probably aided by having concrete hands

Margarito had shipped plenty of punishment in the fights with Williams, Cintron and Cotto prior to the Mosley fight.

If i remember correctly, Mosley got a lot of kudos for what he did to Margarito. So should Pacquiao.
