Boxing - Roach wants Pacquiao-Martinez
As long as the catchweight isnt going to be under 156 then I think its fair .
Manny Pacquiao is a fucking god if he takes this fight anywhere north of 156. I honestly think this is a bridge too far for him though, Martinez is just too big and unorthodox.
Guess the hugger rath cometh...but I think Martinez will knock Manny outTell you what though, I have respect for Pac like no other if he takes this at a clean 156 for Martinez. I'd name my first born Manny if I had one.
I think Roach knows what he's doing. Matinez could use some full facial makeover.
Top Rank won't let another of their fighters near Maravilla. No way. Bruce Trampler is too good of a matchmaker for that. Roach can talk all he wants.
I bet Martinez could still make 154 pretty easily. At 156, any of the "Pac weight drains his opponents" arguments would be ridiculous.
I still think he'd be nuts to try Martinez though - there is such a thing as pushing too far. For me, this would be the most dangerous fight out there short of Mayweather.
Roach is just saying this to cause a stir. He has no intention of letting Pac anywhere near Martinez cuz he is too good.
He had to come out with this because Pac is being slaughtered for fighting another washed up leftover and Roach is being blamed so he thinks by mentioning Martinez' name people will forgive them.
Go ahead and call me crazy like usual but I think Pac can take Martinez.
Yeah, you're probably right - he does look settled in at 160. He's not that far removed from 154, though - enough so that 156 shouldn't be considered an attempt at draining him.
For a high dollar fight with Pacquiao, I bet he'd come in looking like an anorexic teenage girl if that's what it took.
Scary fight
I can't believe Maravilla was TKO'd by Margarito a long time ago.

Martinez is not taller than Margarito and his frame is slightly thinner. He does have a longer reach and is a southpaw. I think I've only seen Pacquiao face one or two southpaws Sanchez was one and that ended up in a draw because of a cut.
I don't see Martinez using that looping overhand left like he did to reach Paul Williams. Paul Williams had a 4 inch height advantage over Martinez and against Pacquiao Martinez have the 3 inch height advantage. That means Martinez will be punching down not up. (more power) We know Pacquiao can take a puch from a full sized welterweight. I can't see Martinez coming straight forward to try and overpower Pacquiao but then again he went after Williams. I haven't seen that many Martinez fights so I can't imagine right now what his fight plan against Pacquiao would be. Make the same mistake as De la hoya, Hatton, and Margarito did and try an walk right through Pacquiao. Ya maybe.... Martinez already stated he's too big for Pacquiao so I see him doing the same thing.
A bridge too far!
I say this is crazy! Pac camp entertaining thoughts at fighting anywhere upwards of 150 lbs is crazy! Pacquiao has not even weighed that much after a night of rehydrating on fight night... he surely will be giving away 20+ pounds in size, and that is a lot. Expect for a night of pounding, it will be better for Pac to pray for an abbreviated outcome to save himself from an imminent carnage. This undertaking is a bridge too far, and a bite, much too much to chew indeed!
But wait! I respect Roach, minus the obvious mind games that he every now and again wields ever so often that we've gone accustomed to, he seems to be an up and up, reasonable man. He must have something rational up his sleeve that is spectacularly absent to a fella's common sense.
Martinez for one is not a back peddler, a point not lost as being as favorable as there ever is as an opponent for Pac. And as for his offense, Sergio seems to favor his right arm a lot more than what a two fisted pugilist would... He has an awkward albeit effective left (IMHO). Is he a converted righty? If he is, then that must be it... that is the ace up their sleeve.
**** **** **** ****
For all we know, these are all but fillers, keeping our interest heightened for mega fights until the coming of the next year when new and interesting stories will abound. It helps too in keeping boxing as a sport lively in our discussions over the holidays.
