    Default JFAT alliance for life

This fight went horribly wrong, but it doesn't really matter as the previous 20 years do matter. Unless you are Calzaghe all careers have a rise and a fall and James Toney is no different.

So this thread is for JFAT alliance people to get in and appreciate what he has done for us over the years. Tonight was shocking, but it is just one fight in many. This needn't be the reference point.

If you love Toney then get in here and say something.

Wtf ? I didn't know the fight happened already.

Went to boxingscene and read what happened.

Toney got stunned a few times, dominated and lost every round.

    FUCK !

    JFAT 4 Life indeed...damn it.

I suppose Hopkins performances in recent years at his age, and Toney's big talk convinced many of us who wanted to be convinced that James Toney could do it.

    Reality SUCKS.

No, I don't believe that Toney was that old. He hurt his leg early and that made its impact. However, Toney is a tougher man than Gay-Hop and fought his fight.

There is no reason why Toney would rely on only one trap, it had to be a non-pivoting leg and that is what it was.

Every thrown right saw Toney wobbling everywhere. Not weight at all, but a serious injury.

No reason to hate on Hopkins in this thread Miles.

So you believe the loss was because of an injury to Toney's leg ?

I believe Toney injured his leg somewhere in the 1-2nd round.. It was obvious something was bothering his movement and it wasn't because of age or drainage either..

He fought through an injury and made it till the final bell..

That's what we call a true throwback fighter. We all know how B.Conn would have handled that situation.. Hopcho Libre!!! lol

I think so and the behaviour would also say as much. You will watch Toney and have no idea that it is Toney, but early on makes you realise why.

There is NO reason why any sane fighter would be so off in their punches. Either Toney is mentally shot or else was seriously injured. And he was injured.

A good career. He was competitive for decades and over a 100 pound spread. Not much more you can say than that.

He also suggested that Samuel Peter was a goat herded.

I really hope this thread is sarcasm, or being done in jest, because although Toney used to be a great talent, he stopped training and let his body go to shit years ago. I can think of a lot of pugs I admire, respect, and consider myself a fan of, but Toney ain't one of them.

You are a complete ass. Toney competed on a world class level from 135 lbs to 235 lbs. If he had been been in great shape -- I guess this would be a worthwhile feat.
IMO, however he maintained his competitive edge throughout the years is commendable. I will admit that he is a story of lost potential, but he was competitive against world class heavyweights even at weights best not attained.
