"If there's a better chin in the world than Pryor's, it has to be on Mount Rushmore." -Pat Putnam.
I think he meant your an ass for even posting in this thread, Miles wasn't making an arguement one way or another Einstein.
I must say I don't get why you guys (Miles and Finito) bother trying to use this an an excuse to knock Hopkins though, or make it out like Toney is so much more the warrior. If Lebedev had body slammed James like Dawson did to Hopkins you clearly would have been adamant that he lose by DQ and put no blame on Toney whatsoever had he chose to quit, dont lie.
Nobody should ever try to belittle the JFAT alliance. It is extremely offensive.
James Toney is still James Toney and though yesterday was a travesty, he is no spring chicken.
I believe he hurt himself early on, but he took his licks and went the distance. In the end that was all he could do and I am not going to knock him for it. He has had an all time great career.
It sucks that he lost to this guy; But the real opponent is father time and eventually he rears his ugly head around that corner and beats us all. Toney could come back and have the Uncivil War part 2 with Roy Jones on ESPN.
I think lights out put it most succinctly after beating Thornton in Donald Mcrae's excellent Dark Trade
"An' now, baby, it's time to eat cheeseburgers, lotsa cheeseburgers...'cos I'm James Toney, champion o' the world..."
Imbued with patience and skill he spoke of administering " a respectful beating" that night.
The time has come to walk away from an exceptional career.
James "Lights Out" Toney. A Legend.
Hopkins didn't fight 12 rounds injured? Bla bla Hopkins is a clown, Toney is a throwback bla bla etc.
This just in:
Hopkins never squandered is talent by losing discipline and turning into a whale/got caught with roids in him either...
Hopkins, still in great shape and still winning titles/beating young fighters at almost 47.
But Toney gets all the accolades for letting it all slip when he had the talent to last much longer?
Out of respect for the veteran JFAT (love the name) alliance, I've decided to stay the hell away from this thread, seeing as to how Toney is one of my most hated fighters of all time.
HAVE AT IT, JFAT FANS!!

I think beating Ruiz was a good win for him and kind of his last hurrah. I also don't really hold his steroid use in the same lights as I do for a lot of athletes because he had well documented problems with low testosterone and HGH levels, the steroids were prescribed to him by a physician as they would be for many people in his condition and weren't really performance enhancing.
