Its happening on FS1. Personally speaking I'm hoping Kamegai beats '9-lives' Gomez up. Long layoff for Gomez and have him 0-3 in his last few. Style wise at least...it should be good for a bit. Hopkins says he is returning in the fall...shocked![]()

Well managed couple of rounds by Gomez. Controlled 1st with jab and good counters 2nd. Kamegai focused on body but throws like a guy stuck in a doorway
Gomez deducted point for intentional headbutt in 4th. Starting to open up wide, Kamegai on his chest starting 5th but with zero set up
Gomez hitting cleaner but looks haggard, mouth open and more 'keep off me' jabs. Kamegai all over him..lasting damage with left hook to body
When is it a Refs place to instruct a boxer.."get deep breath here" right before he breaks action![]()
Strong 8th by Kamegai, Gomez looked tucked into himself and very body conscious. Kamegai needs a clear tko
Kamegai would empty his bank account if it would make this a 12 rounder. Solid round again by him, accurate. Gomez landing second thought pecks in 9th but sucking wind.
Fookin A.. Gomez looked like he was rewriting the Kama Sutra in that last roundToo little too late by Kamegai and Gomez was there for the taking if you ask me. Around 96-94, 8-9-10 def Kamegai rounds.
98-91 is a cart load of bullshat. Cheers
I predicted Gomez would win on points.
Do not let success go to your head and do not let failure get to your heart.
I saw this on Friday, the most frustrating fight I've seen in a while. Like you say Gomez was there for the taking, but Kamegai was fighting on a one-way street with no off ramps. Walk right in without a jab taking two or three shots, throw a couple partially blocked shots and then get tied up, over and over again!
It's hard to figure out what Kamegai was attempting to do! Was he trying to be a Japanese 'Rocky'?
I've heard that in Japan, Kamegai is considered to be a technical boxer, there was nothing technical about his performance. Well I guess you could say that, technically, Kamegai threw the fight away.
The pressure Kamegai was applying was working (that point deduction against Gomez for a deliberate head butt shows how frustrated he was at not being able to keep Kamegai off) and Gomez did slow up towards the end of the fight, but if you lose the fight because you were being tagged all night, what's the sense behind the pressure?
The smart fighters try to hit and not be hit. The smart fighters don't invite their opponents to wear themselves out by throwing punches at their faces and bodies.
Honestly, the fight had me cursing Kamegai through the TV. I was wishing he could hear me. Lol
If that's the way Kamegai is going to fight in the US, he should stay in Japan, it would better for his health.
I had Kamegai winning 3 rds too.
Kamegai has an interesting motto, 'If it doesn't work, keep doing it.'
Damn didn't catch this thread on time. I did replay Wilder v Stiverne which impressed me even more the second time around but would have enjoyed watching FS 1. I think we have boxing on NBC this weekend if I'm not mistaken.
Guy who works for Asian Boxing told me he pissed himself with laughter when he got told Kamegai was a "technical fighter". Something along the lines of "who ever told you that needs a new translator, he's as crude at home as he is away from it" difference is he gets away with it at home due to the competition not being that strong. Only 2 or 3 fighters in Asia who can really give him a good bout and he's turned down one of them (Keita Obara) whilst another has just resurfaced in Mexico (Min Wook Kim).
