Default Crossing over the Atlantic sports divide

How British rocker Felix White fell in love with baseball

As a longtime subscriber to SI, I was pleasantly surprised to read this article in my latest issue.
Hell... even I don't like baseball that much.

    You see, blokes?
    It can be done.

When the Yankees were doing their dynasty thing the firm I worked for at the time had a couple of boxes at Yankee Stadium. I got dragged along one night and El Duque was pitching.

    That leg kick.

That leg kick was probably the start of it. I used to go quite regularly after that. I generally used to buy tickets as sitting in a box with a bunch of fuckers talking money is seriously offputting. Sitting in the crowd and talking to actual normal people was a great thing, one of the things I miss most about New York.

    1. Not so much anymore, every so often someone will get popped for PEDs but it's happening less and less frequently.

    2. Perhaps, but it's not so much about pitching faster it's about rehabilitation between starts and being able to throw more pitches and throw more games. The baseball regular season is 162 games, so it's a marathon of a season. I will say you can certainly hit more homeruns on steroids.

The playoffs in baseball are almost unmatched in attention to detail and intensity, hockey is up there as well. Playoff hockey is fucking brilliant, you Brits should get on THAT train.

Is that French for male? As in 'For male' spoken with a husky effeminate French twang.

There was mass hysteria in Manhattan's gay population when it became public knowledge on the gayvine that I was leaving. I didn't mention it because I thought it would go without saying.

I guess the point here, lest it be lost in the shuffle.... is that all the huffing and puffing over who has the better sports is really well..... pointless. If you love sports, you learn to appreciate them all, regardless of which side of the pond they originated from, are played, etc, etc.

(Cue for a certain Brit I know to chime in and say that baseball is shit..... or shite, as it's usually misspelled).
