An introduction and an observation.

First off my name is noskill(aka danny) and I've been a member here a while but haven't really posted here much. I am a true fan of the sport, more into current fighters than past and nationality doesn't really matter to me for this sport. In fact I like the idea boxing is spreading globally. I am used to posting in smaller forums so I may get erratic at times but pay me no mind,lol.
For my topic, I wanted some thoughts on a question that have been raised in my other forums. This is the most global forum I am in so I think the best answers may come from here.
I posted here in a Mesi thread that he is a hype job IMO. I love my country but we are failing as a country for boxing. I wanted some opinions or feedback on some US fighters who I think were overhyped just to bring some attention back our way.
JOE MESI of course,and he is paying the price for catapulting into stardom, then being "exposed"
JERMAIN TAYLOR(this one may get me some shit) is/was a media darling here for having two disputable wins over Hopkins. He was slated to be the best thing since the wheel here and was let slide while fighting blown up welters and Jr. welters,and STILL only winning shakey scores. The man let Spinks back him around the ring. Along comes Pavlik,a good strong puncher but not as skilled and exposes him as a hype job to me.
JEFF LACY was whupped by Joe C. and since has had a very unexciting fight which he still looked like crap
MAYWEATHER(he doesnt truly fit here because he IS great,BUT) this guy has fought big names and won 'em all sure. If you look close enuff at his record,date of fights and weight class I think you will see more avoidances of the top guys in his weights than who he actually fought. He never once cleaned out any division he was in before picking his way thru the next weight. Floyd is a guy I think would have some losses on his record if he actually fought the best,when they were at there best.

My question is how do some of the international members here feel about these guys and others I left out since this post is getting long?
Do other members here feel they have the same problem in there respective country with fighters getting to rape the media and fans before being tested? As an American,I get to hear the quarrels over names like Calzaghe Hatton and others being less than their status presents them. I want an opinion from their fellow countrymen

OK, I'll deal with your fighters on the list in turn.

Joe Mesi - Personally from what I've read about him he seems like a decent enough guy, but is symptomatic of the growing importance of the '0' on people's records, and America is the biggest proponent of that, although Frank Warren is helping the UK catch up quick. Mesi needs to push his handlers into getting some bigger fights, though he himself doesn't seem to be too ambitious, and could keep on fighting average Joe's till he feels like retiring.

Jermain Taylor - I think he still has something to offer the sport at SMW, and could claim one of the titles soon to be vacated by Calzaghe. He's a decent boxer, but isn't too keen on getting hit, and is more about winning and not getting hurt than really entertaining the fans.

Jeff Lacy - I must admit Lacy took his beating with good grace, and his injury has since left him fighting to get his career back on track. If he gets his power and left hook back, there might still be time left for him to recover things and get back on track. If he never gets the power for that arm back, we can probably have a whip round and buy a retirement prezzie for him.

Mayweather - Greatest P4P fighter of his generation. He may not have fought the biggest fighters in each division he's been in, but he's fought many of the best, and quickly amassed his five-division world titles. Horrible personality. Sensational boxer.

Your avatar scares the holyshit out of me Newbie,Hilarious.Biased fandom and hype jobs are a dime a dozen throughout the years.I remember sitting through Lacy's rise and HBO was pushing him like He was the next coming of Joe Frazier AND Sugar ray.They actually repeated the mantra "Wow,He reminds one so much of a young Evander Holyfield". I would shake my head untill I had whiplash in a big WTF moment.You can wrap a terd up in a pretty box with a colorful bow all you want but ....It still stinks.Not the best analogy but there it is. I would not put Taylor In the same catogory though,no way.

Fighters get over hyped everywhere, some of it is the fault of the fans and some of it is due to the fans being played.

I find you can really determine who the real deal is by the level of competition they are willing to fight and prove themselves against.

Any fighter can be beaten, but my favorites are the ones who are willing to prove they can beat anyone put in front of them or fail trying. Unfortunately that list is a short one as most like to take the less dangerous route..

Boxing is one strange sport. I never liked John Duddy until I watched him getting beat up. He was so worried about not giving the fans a good show. He was more willing to go out slugging and lose, than to take the safer route and box to a decision. His corner convinced him otherwise, but with him willing to do that, showed true character. He feels he owes something to the fans, and if more fighters had that mindset, boxing would still be in it's glory days.
