Does it hurt to have a cauliflower ear, and can it be fixed through surgery? Also, is it as common in boxing as it is in MMA/UFC?

You obviously watched that MMA fight last night. lol I don't know much about it, so will wait for info also, and maybe look it up some...but I couldn't understand why that dude didn't have it drained or something before the fight. it sure was LOL stuff tho.
Once you have it hurts likes blazes
You dont drop it on the flap where the ears turned over, but for some reason it makes that interior flap way more sensitive, you drop the shot there, and away from the ref, because that isnt a legal shot, and you would never want the ref,............never want to do anything illegal
Not that I would know anything about that
Here I thought it was about the veggie you eat...![]()
LOL naw. at some point you cant drain the stuff any more. Only when its fresh. Other than that it hardens into cartilage until your ear is just one big gnarled mass of ear. Pretty sick, but cauliflower ear is like a black belt to a karate practicioner. Some wear it proud.
I've noticed many of the MMA fighters have it. Some have it worser than others, though.
Check out the front rowers of a Rugby union team all of them have it big time, the reason why they tape their ears to their heads. But never actually known anyone who's had it.
Because MMA fighters mainly consist of grapplers and wrasslers not stand up fighters. And like i said, Cauliflower ear is mostly the mark of a wrestler. You get it in highschool wrestling by not wearing headgear like you're supposed to. Alot of wrestlers think its cool and wear it with pride. Kinda like a TKD wears his black belt with pride. I on the other hand always wore my headgear. I developed a small case of Cauli Ear and it scared the shit outta me.
Stand up fighters like boxers and kickboxers dont spend enough time bashing their ears against stuff to develop it.
So if you see a guy on the street with ears like that. I wouldnt want to engage in confrontation, because he probablly has the skillset to suplex you headfirst into the cement. Consider it a forewarning. lol.

Cauliflower ear is caused by the damage of the cartilage in the ear.
When the cartilage becomes damaged the blood vessels within bleed causing the fractures or hollows to solidify.
It doesn't hurt severly but it will be felt.
Cauliflower ear rarely occurs in boxing anymore as it really only occurs when theremis a lot of contact with heads grinding on one another or the ears are interfered with.

my friends who fight mma have it and say it doesn't hurt them.. but when they get it drained or whatever, it hurts cause you use a needle and what not..
it can definitely be fixed with surgery, but i'm sure there are alternate methods to fix it..
and no, boxers having cauliflower ear is pretty rare, unless they wrestle on the side or take a lot of ear shots.. cauliflower ear is cause by trauma and shock to the ear that separates the cartilage, causing swelling and scar tissue.. as far as i know at least.. so considering there is no grappling in boxing, then boxers are much less susceptible to it..
