I feel the need to throw my two cents in on this because I think boxing fans these days seem to be in the mindset that if a guy beats another guy, that elimanates them from the elite.

For example, many are now ignoring Cotto in his argument for beating Floyd Mayweather. Even after last night, I still believe Cotto can beat Floyd, but I think Floyd beats Tony every time, just like I believed Margo had the beating of Cotto. I always saw this as a round robin where they all had the tools to beat each other.

Floyd is too damn quick for Tony. He'd be in and out before Tony had the oppertunity to land. He'd run all night and win a wide points decision. As for Cotto, I just think he's smart enough to adapt to anything that Mayweather had, and I think he'd show relentless pressure without getting tagged as often as Hatton did in order to win the day.

Just because Cotto lost doesn't mean he can't comeback. He's a very smart fighter and will learn alot from this experience.

I agree. I hate how boxing fans and commentators make it sound like a guy is finished once they lose. If they fought competetive fights, they are gonna lose a few..... Cotto isn't finished.

It must also be looked at that for the first 6 rounds, Cotto was making Tony look foolish at times as he was outboxing him, his footwork was too good and he had the general beating of him. It was only when Tony started to slow Cotto down with body shots that he was able to force his own fight upon Miguel. Seriously, he's a smart fighter. I think he could learn enough to figure out a gameplan to reverse this decision in a rematch.

Good points. Very similar situation to Foreman Ali and Frasier, where the inside fighter can give problems to the boxer but be eaten by the beast.

Dissagree with your second post, there was an inevitability from Tony's work, yes Cotto was winning the rounds, but as early as the second Tony had him sitting on the ropes from hurtful shots. Tony' spunches had way more effect, and unless Cotto changes his style completely he'll just get beaten again.

I hope you are right but its not very often a fighter comes back better from a thrashing like that . We may have seen his best days
