Default When will it ever stop? Just give the man his due...

I am rolling here when I read some of the comments on threads concerning Antonio Margarito....I see things like "Margarito is too slow to beat Andre Berto" ...and "Until Margarito beats Williams in a rematch I won't give him his due"......

I am seriously thinking about starting a 12 step for some of you guys......

Margarito has proven himself hands down...what is there to prove? let's review a second....

3 of Tony's 5 losses came early on in his career..so early they can not be discredited on his resume due to the fact we have a hell of a lot more guys out there current and past that have more losses then he does and they came later in their careers.....

His only stoppage was on cuts....A valid stoppage yes but when I hear people say Vitaly beat Lennox and Lennox was lucky due to the cut stoppage I have to question peoples opinions of valid stoppages and losses...The cards were pretty even at the time of the stoppage as well...

The loss to Paul Williams was more due to Margarito waiting too long to step it up then anything....Tony was taking care of business at the last part of the bout....I remember Bernard Hopkins making the same mistakes a few times especially in the Howard Eastman fight where he lost the first 5 rounds before stepping it up....It was a tactical mistake that he acknowaged the moment the fight was over and made no excuses...

He has knocked out 27 of his 37 opponents he has beaten...His last 20 opponents have had better then a 75% win ratio....11 of them better then 85%.....

He has walked through guys like Kermit Cintron (lets spare the Kermit and his mental status comments the Man was a highly touted prospect in the first outing and champion in the rematch....he also has KO's 27 of his 29 opponents he has beaten....

He practicall made Lujan a one eared man for the rest of his life..

Most recently he beat one of the sports top 5 pound for pound fighters and a man everyone was considering the best puncher in boxing Miguel Cotto...The same Cotto people were saying was boxings next greatest superstar....

And that is in no way a dig at Cotto but more a testamnet to Margarito.....

So lets spare the He is slow as a turtle comments...He is nothing more then a club fighter who has gotten lucky...No more he is not as good as people claim and all the other nonsense...

If any of that is true what does that say about the men he has beaten?...The same men many of you who are making these comments about Margarito praised before the bout with him took place.....

You don't have to like him...You don't have to praise his accomplishments...you don't even have to give him his due....

    BUT....

Don't look for reasons to try and take away from what he has done...Don't look for reasons to make excuses on why he won't beat so and so especially when it comes to fighters who have yet to beat a top 10 ranked opponent.....

Let it ride as is...The man is the best 147 pound fighter in the world and he has proven that....

Paul Williams biggest accomplishment is a close win over Tony and I give him his credit but he has not accomplished even a 1/3rd of what Margarito has......

Here is a little VH1 I love the 90's flashback phrase for ya's...

Don't hate the player hate the game....and right now Antonio Margarito is the best 147lb player in the world.....

Tony has paid his dues and gets maximum props from me.

    Did before Cotto.

I would prefer to see him avenge his loss to Williams, but it is not overly necessary to convince me that he is p4p top ten. Granite chin and high workrate means he will probably never be stopped. Williams style was ideal to defeat Margarito and it just about worked for him.

He's undisputed... I'd love to see clotty tony again... With healthy hands Joshua is dangerous... Zab found out when he quit.

I pretty much have Clotty beating everyone in the div... He'd do well against Cotto as well....

Why is here not more talk about Clotty I wonder....

I give Tony all the credit. I also say the man has changed since his two sub-par performances against Clottey and Williams.I think the Tony that came into the ring against Cintron and Cotto will knock either of these guy's out in a rematch. It seems it was that goofy ass haircut that really sparked Tony. It's mullet-esk and is beautiful keep the hair and everything is going to be great.

I don't like Margarito, but I agree with you except for the part about Williams. Margarito stepped it up in the second half of their fight, but Paul was anything but done. He stepped it up in the 12th and out-hustled the hustler. Williams took Margarito's title by winning the last round.

You aren't giving Williams credit, he was the reason Margarito wasn't able to get off the to a quick start, and he, Paul, was boxing circles around Tony. He also survived the last few rounds to win the fight by a solid lead. I don't see how people had that as a close fight.

Also Clottey broke his hands in that fight. Would he have won if they hadn't been broken? I don't know, but he was certainly controlling the early rounds, and not in the same way as Cotto, he was taken Margarito's punches, and dishing out better ones himself, until he hurt his hands.

Margarito is a good, tough fighter, but he isn't a young Antonio Barrera or Morrales, or even JLC. Castillo got stopped when he was a teenager by cuts, he was fought everyone, his chin was amazing, but he had skill. THats all I am looking for if Margarito had good technique I wouldn't care if he was as slow as a sloth or got hit a lot, Pavlik is an example of aguy who is slow, but he has mastered the technique, and now I like him. But Margarito is exactly what I hate about boxing, a guy who takes shots willingly in the head, and uses mundane pugilism to win fights.

margarito is a good fighter, no more imo.

he is a bad boxer and takes about 3-4 rounds to start cracking up the pace.
to his credit he has one ofthe best ever chins and punches fairly hard and his workrate is right up there.
but someone like mayweather would beat him easily it would be like baldomir all over again.

clotty and williams imo both take him because they generally have tight defences and good chins to.

you wont knock margarito out, but he isnt an elit fighter i dont think.

This is the first fight i saw of clottey and he looked damn dangerous. Judah couldn't keep up the pace and was wearing down quite quickly before the stoppage.

He can't box for shiet but his chin, his work rate, his stamina, his power and his size are enough for him. Tony is a small Middle Weight at best who can make 147. Just imagine if he was fast and could box Man did Floyd retire just in time or what? Floyd knew what he was doing when he said he was retiring after Baldomir. Floyd might fool the people by saying who is Tony Margarito but the TRUTH is.. Floyd and his camp knew EXACTLY who the phuk Tony Margarito was and is.

But hey! Shaq can't shoot a free throw to save his own life lol That's real, you work with what God gives you.

Antonio Margarito had a severe sprained ankle and a shoulder injury shortly before the Joshua Clottey fight he wasn't at his best........

And if you actually read up on Joshua Clottey he later admitted he didn't break his hand.

I completely agree with Daxx. People hate on Tony because he's not slick, he's not fancy, he's not fast, etc. He might not be pretty in the ring but he wins fights, isn't that what it's all about? Tony is old school. He's a throwback to the days when it was prizefighting, not boxing. You actually had to be tough and fight for a victory. Nowadays, too many fighters are primadonnas who just use their natural athletic ability to dance their way to victory. I'm not hating on guys who are naturally more talented, but I think it's a sign of extreme arrogance and elitism to hate on anyone who doesn't have the natural gifts of a Mayweather or Roy Jones. Everybody has their strengths and weaknesses, and they use what works for them. You don't have to like Tony, but the constant put downs are nothing but childishness.

It's funny that so many people say that if it wasn't for Tony's chin he wouldn't be where he is today. Well, I could say if it wasn't for Floyd's talent, he wouldn't be where he is today. That might sound silly, but think about it. Floyd is an incredibly gifted athlete by nature, it's something he didn't choose or earn. I'm not saying he doesn't work hard also, but if he didn't have the natural ability, he wouldn't be so great. All fighters work hard, but Floyd has the advantage of being blessed with an extraordinary natural ability. Does that mean we should hold that against him?

PS- Let's be honest, the real reason people hate on Tony is because they can't stand the fact that a clumsy guy with a mullet will beat their smooth, Gucci wearing, favorite fighter's ass.
"The refusal to respect one's enemies is a weakness, a stinginess of heart." Frederick the Great
