Unpacking / repacking a heavy bag

Guys,

anyone ever do it or try it? It's getting to the point where the filling is settling so tight that it's like hitting a rock. So I was thinking of unpacking and repacking it, but I'm not sure if it's wise since all the filling might go everywhere.

Thoughts?

If I didn't already own it I'd buy a water bag.

Dont tell me,its settling around where the body shots should be
An easier fix,take some of the padding out,and whenever its not in use,take it off the stand and place it flat on the floor,or upside down

I've tried it both ways, as well as the learning experience of taking all the stuffing out and putting it back in. TM's idea of taking some of the stuffing out, shaking the bag a bit and flipping it upside down is most pain free and will save you from the cleaning up after.

No freaking kidding,repacking a bag is bollocks,its just easier to make it a habit to pull the bag down when it isnt in use. On a really loose packed bag it isnt as much of an issue,but on a tight packed bag it most definitely is. They will get as hard as a rock around the body area if you dont rotate them a bit.
Learned that one the hard way,as it were

Exactly, and it hurts like hell. Plus, my gloves have very dense foam in them to begin with (but I just bought them so I'm stuck with em).

Good idea to take it down after use. I have done it in the past, but taking it down all the time is pro'bly a good idea.

What about taking stuffing out though? If you take the top stuff out, how does that loosen/soften the bottom part?

And chris, it's that crap getting everywhere and fighting to get it back in that scares me!

It's a pain in the ass, especially you gotta remember the stuff is somewhat compacted when you first get the bag. That means if you take all of the stuffing out, you're not going to get it all back in at first.

Maybe you can come up with a way that makes taking the bag down easier. I might try that myself.

the other day I took everything out. The hard parts killing my hands were little sand bags that worked their way to the outside.

I put a few sand bags on the bottom, stuffed the middle section with about 75% of the original filling, and put the remaining sand bags on top. this way it's heavy, not as heavy as before, but more importantly, it's not nearly as hard where you hit it most often.

You dont have to take out alot,but removing a little,and having a quick release to take down the bag makes a freaking world of difference.
Ive had the exact same problem with my bags over the years,especially the Everlast ones,that are packed tighter then a drum.
A couple of hand fulls of stuffing,and dropping the bag,and it all gets easier
