Smile Sergio Martinez finally has an opponent for February 14th - Kermit Cintron

    Finally!!!

I just read on a couple sites that Lou DiBully just confirmed that Sergio Martinez will now be facing Kermit Cintron on the Angulo/Mayorga card.

DiBully promotes both guys, and wasn't able to get enough money for the Cintron/Clottey fight for the Cotto/Jennings undercard, so he talked to Kermit, and Kermit agreed to move up in weight and face Martinez.

This actually should be an interesting fight.

I think Martinez is an easier opponent for Cintron than Clottey was. If Cintron has the power at 154 that he did at 147 I wouldn't be shocked if he stopped him

I can see that on Martinez, getting caught.Martinez a definite eye opener but he may want to keep the hands up,tighten up a bit.Say what you will....going from Joe Green to another level in Cintron is a sizable jump, weight or no weight. Two huge question marks here, going the opposite direction?Good scrap.

My exact thoughts-- this may work out pretty well for Cintron. Martinez is slick, but hasn't exactly been a world beater and ihas been in a much weaker division. Cintron has his critics and his record is at least comparable, but losing to Margarito doesn't mean his career path is on a downward slide as many assume-- as long as he keeps developing his skills and improving and fights strategically. He's relatively young (especially in terms of boxing years, having picked up the sport only in college), and his awesome power should be there at 154. His much commented upon "fragile psyche" is largely overstated: perhaps true after MArgo I, but the Margo II war should have dispelled many of those doubts, and he handled his loss well (and more importantly acknowledged his mistaken "just bang" strategy). I think Kerm wins this one.

I thought Martinez was officially fighting Santos? That is a much better fight.

Sergio Martinez sure is getting alot of hype for beating a mediocre fighter, no doubt Sergio Martinez is a good fighter. But he is getting a bit overhyped. And with his low hand style against Kermit Cintron he could be wiped out within 5 rounds. I do think Kermit Cintron's power is somewhat overrated, but i certainly feel enough to stop Sergio Martinez if he catches him that is.

I don't think Cintron's power is overrated at all, he has the heaviest hands at 147 imo. I do think Martinez's workrate is going to frustrate him though. I'm going with Martinez by wide UD.
For every story told that divides us, I believe there are a thousand untold that unite us.

Hey Ice buddy we finally agree on something!

I couldn't believe my ears when Martinez was fighting that Bunema guy.

HBO who up to that point had NEVER EVER even mentioned him in a broadcast before were talking about him like he was Floyd Mayweather. It was embarrassing, they were saying he shouldn't bother with fighting the likes of Vernon Forrest and should instead go straight for a money fight with the likes of Margarito, Mosely or Paul Williams. They were talking about him like they had been championing him for years and that he was a p4p star.

I wouldn't have minded but prior to that fight none of the HBO team had ever mentioned him at all.

Let's see him in with a decent opponent before we proclaim him an all time great is all I'm saying.

If he can bowl Cintron over impressively then we can start calling him a talent.

Until then he's just a guy who dominated a guy nobody had ever heard of and who scored an upset win over a weight drained former champ.

Don King annouced that Santos would take the fight, but Santos never agreed to it. He turned it down because he said that he could not be ready in time.
