Default Does Chris Rock tell non-race related jokes??

I know the guy is huge in america and amongst black communitys all over the world but having just watched back to back "everybody hates chris" episodes ive come to the conclusion the guy either has one massive chip on his shoulder that he just cant shake or exploits peoples racist indescretions to make a profit.

Every single gag within the show is either making fun at white people for working too hard or black people for being too lazy. Isnt america post obamas win supposed to be this now liberated country free of racial stereotypes :-(

What pisses me off even more is that though he commonly accepts within his show that the black men within his area were lazy bums the white overacheiver gets the biggest rap for.....well doing too well for himself.

I also find that the whole ethos of the show is based around a young black kid being held back at every single turn by the white man yet his endless racial slurs leave you wondering how the hell someone so god-damn racist can complain.

Now before any of you crazy crackers (see what i did there) come off all preachy with me about it just being a show let me please refer you to every other bit of comedy this guy has every performed and how he clearly has no racial tolerance whatsoever!!!

    end of rant

Don't get me started, the double standard is ridiculous....A white guy makes a comment about black people and if it's anything that could be percieved as negative then that white guy is a "racist" or a "bigot".....however a black guy can drop the n-word 50 times during a comedy bit or a rap song and calls white people "whitey" or "cracker" and everything is ok.

Chris Rock, although he can be funny is hung up on race and politics

This is why I think this is funnier than Chris Rock....

In comedy I think anything should go. I think there is too much PC bullshit generally and a free language is better than one that is constantly policed for correctness. I see nothing wrong with racial jokes.

Mate, I'm sorry but you should see some of the jokes that white comedians make at black comedy shows, they would be construed as very racist by some, but guess what? A room FULL of black people is pissin themselves laughin at dem. By and large, we're not the ones gettin over-sensitive about jokes about us. All we ask is that they're actually funny, & not just weak & crude. The Bernard Manning style 'there was a black bloke then he ran in an alley & I couldn't see him' shit is just old.

With the Chris Rock thing, its comedy, its not like there isnt SOME truth to the things he says, and I think it could seem like you have a chip on your shoulder the way you bring this 'black people are racist' stuff up. Seriously, I've heard some racist jokes that I thought were fuckin hilarious, all it ha to be is actually clever. Chris Rock's stuff is clever, and I certainly see some characters in that show who are just like people I've met in real life.

    Lyle

If it makes you feel better you can call ME a n*gga, coz it seems you have some kind of need to want to get out the words. Yes, there is a double standard, but there isn't really a word for white people that makes them feel so denigrated & worthless as slurs like nigger, paki or half-breed do for ethnic minorities. Also the context of words is important, the Real Madrid fans who were makin monkey chants at me as I went to a football match over there were clearly doin it because of my race. When Howard Cosell called the NFL player a monkey in that incident that lost him his job, he was NOT bein racist, as he had said the same about white players. That was political correctness gone too far, and most black people don't like it when that happens, but if there's a word you're not sure if its ok to say, the easiest thing to do is to NOT say it. Then no one can accuse you of anything. No one can control what you think. Also Lyle it seems Chris Rock's favourite topics for comedy are quite closely alligned with your own interests

I normally don't like to get involved in these thread coz they just piss me off & that ain't why I come here, but honestly when comedians can't have license to offend then shit has gone too far. I never gave a shit about Bernard Manning or Jim Davidson makin their jokes, I just chose to think they were cunts & not bother to watch them, I don't want them banned.

Jaz, I don't mean to piss you off or anything , I just (like most people) want some clarification and some of the same standards set for all PEOPLE regardless of race, ethnicity, culture, religion, etc.

While I like politics and I like to laugh at cultural differences every now and then I don't usually try and mix them...I liked Birbiglia's stuff because it's making light of a situation white people are put in when they laugh at stuff that comedians like Chris Rock put out, it's ridiculous and doesn't seem to make sense when put into the context of every day life and that makes me laugh, it's pointing out the double standard and how ridiculous it is.

I can't watch youtube at work so I can't comment on that videa, and Lyle despite your views, I actually don't think you're one of the posters I would consider racist as I think you're just honest with your opinions. To be honest, I don't like affirmative action programs or anything like that even though I do think ethnic minorities find it more difficult getting a job because of their background. The fact is those programs too often punish the wrong people & create a prejudice in their minds that never existed.

I prefer Chris Rock's stuff as he has situations that can be related to. He also is aware that black people can be racist as shown in one of his shows where he talks about his racist uncle. One thing I really can't stand is black comedians doing sketches that have a lot of racism that people (often ultra-leftwing white people) would consider racist were it a white comedian doing it.

mate i own every single chubby brown, bernard manning dvd there is to own and they are just about the 2 sickest comedians out there who go out of their way to offend everyone......and i love the fat fuckers for it.

But if chris rock is allowed to make a racial slur or connatation about white people on a regular and consistent basis that gets aired on prime time tv to women, men and children alike then how the hell can someone complain when the guy from seinfield gets a little bit too carried away at a live show??

    thats just double standards!!!

I agree completely. There are double standards and I think it's bollocks. I think that ALL comedians should be able to make the jokes they want. Unfortunately the media and television is controlled by a bunch of PC wankers who will dictate what is considered as acceptable or appropriate. They are hypocrites.

He started callin an audience member a nigger that is totally different to making a witty play on how we all react to race. Do you think kids really watch Chris Rock & go join the Nation of Islam.

That show makes fun of a lot of stereotypes about black people as well. You have all the Bernard Manning dvds but obviously can't stand it when the shoe is on the other foot. Seriously, you can't say that Bernard Manning's comedy is ok, but for some reason Chris Rock's isn't.

Here is more on the Michael Richards incident to show it was not him taking any kind of comedic license rather just bein racially abusive to audience members who responded to him takin da piss

The only 2 stand up comedians to receive widespread backlash in the last 40 years due to their 'material' were Andrew Dice Clay and Eddie Murphy, and in Clay's case it was for jokes pertaining to sexism and not racism, and Eddie it was simply for his vulgar language. As Miles pointed out, in comedy, anything goes. Nick DiPaulo, Jim Norton, and the legendary Don Rickles are three of the funniest comedians in comedy and they make Black jokes all the time, and it's accepted just as when Chris Rock makes White jokes, because they're all funny, so if anyone can please give me an example of a white comedian being crucified for making black jokes please do so, otherwise please get your facts straight, thanks

So you like comedians when they are being racists towards black people but you feel the need to complain on a boxing forum when a black man makes a joke about a white man?

You've said it yourself......thats just double standards!!!
