    Default Help with glove size/weight

Hi there, im pretty new to boxing and im looking to get my own gloves.
I'll mainly be using them for pad work and occasionally bag work with the possiblity of sparring in a few months maybe.

Basically, im wondering if i get the 12oz or the 14oz (find 16s a tad heavy). also my hands are quite big (not massive) but have found that some gloves labelled medium are a bit snug.

    Im looking at these:
Everlast Protex3 Training Gloves Leather - Sugarrays Boxing Equipment

    Im swaying towards the 14ozs.

    any advice would be great

Don't forget you'll be wearing hand wraps as well. If you can get to a store and try them on it would be even better.

My bag gloves would be round the 12oz range but they're not labelled by weight, less padding round the wrist unlike the ones you have linked to, they do look like decent gloves.

It's all a matter of personal preference.

My friend had a pair of Everlast Protex gloves before and he liked them. Personally for that kind of money I'd go with a different brand, but that's just me.

Like Missy said, you need a pair of hand wraps, and since you have bigger hands, I recommend opting for the longer hand wraps. Mexican style hand wraps are usually longer, and have some elastic built into them which make for a snug fit when wrapped right. There's hand wrapping methods online that will also help you protect your knuckles better without impeding your ability to make a fist.

yep, im sorted on the hand wraps. I bought some almost straight away so i had some to use with the gyms gloves. Ive been practicing wrapping my hands using the techniques in section at the top of the forum.

Ive tried on a few pairs of gloves (different manufacturer) but the problem is there are literally no boxing equipment stores in my area. I tried on some Adidas 14ozs and they felt nice, although im asuming that the fit will differ from manufacturer to manufacturer.

You can usually find boxing equipment at a regular sporting goods store, although it's usually the cheaper everlast gear. It's better to get your gloves online, and check their return policy so if you don't like it and want to try a different brand/glove you can return it.
