I've got to say after he thoroughly outboxed Angulo, I gained a new respect for him. Then I read these quotes.
Kermit Cintron Targets Miguel Cotto For Puerto Rican Pride - Boxing News
I'll give you the highlights. He wants to fight Miguel Cotto in Puerto Rico next June (fair enough, good fight).
Unfortunately he then said this "I don't discriminate. From 147 to 154, I feel like I can beat anyone in the world. My only two losses were to a guy who was later found to have loaded gloves. Almost no one else has a track record as good as mine, and yet everyone else seems to be getting opportunities".
Well, looking at that fantastic track record where the standout names are Angulo, David Estrada & Lovemore N'dou, I can see that he might have overestimated said resume. Unless he means his winning percentage which is still equivalent to or lower than much of the Top 10 at 147 & the best guys at 154, like Paul Williams or Sergio Martinez.
Talking of Martinez, Cintron is more than eager to have a rematch before he takes on Cotto. In his own words, "Because the Cotto fight wouldn't happen until June, I'd like to get a rematch against Sergio Martinez. Some people disputed the draw. Look, the guy wore so much hair gel and mousse, that the fumes were making me dizzy. And I still managed to put it on him on only 4 weeks notice. Let's clear the air. With an 8 week camp, I knock him out. Simple as that'.
Old Kermit has obviously forgotten that Martinez has already KO'd him. Did anyone notice any point in that fight where he 'put it on him'??
