Default Just when you'd forgotten why Kermit Cintron is such an ass...

I've got to say after he thoroughly outboxed Angulo, I gained a new respect for him. Then I read these quotes.

Kermit Cintron Targets Miguel Cotto For Puerto Rican Pride - Boxing News

I'll give you the highlights. He wants to fight Miguel Cotto in Puerto Rico next June (fair enough, good fight).

Unfortunately he then said this "I don't discriminate. From 147 to 154, I feel like I can beat anyone in the world. My only two losses were to a guy who was later found to have loaded gloves. Almost no one else has a track record as good as mine, and yet everyone else seems to be getting opportunities".

Well, looking at that fantastic track record where the standout names are Angulo, David Estrada & Lovemore N'dou, I can see that he might have overestimated said resume. Unless he means his winning percentage which is still equivalent to or lower than much of the Top 10 at 147 & the best guys at 154, like Paul Williams or Sergio Martinez.

Talking of Martinez, Cintron is more than eager to have a rematch before he takes on Cotto. In his own words, "Because the Cotto fight wouldn't happen until June, I'd like to get a rematch against Sergio Martinez. Some people disputed the draw. Look, the guy wore so much hair gel and mousse, that the fumes were making me dizzy. And I still managed to put it on him on only 4 weeks notice. Let's clear the air. With an 8 week camp, I knock him out. Simple as that'.

Old Kermit has obviously forgotten that Martinez has already KO'd him. Did anyone notice any point in that fight where he 'put it on him'??

Funny stuff..i still laugh my ass off seeing that shot sergio gave him. Hit him so clean and hard cintron thought dude had to be cheating. He lost twice maybe three times in that fight. Aside from all that silly-ness cintron is fun to watch just because he does hit pretty damn hard. I see him falling ass backwards into a belt one day.

Cintron would get totally schooled by Cotto! The only advantage he has is a little size. Cotto just lost to what I believe is without a doubt the best fighter in the world, and I'm not about to take Cotto out of the elite fighters list because of it. Cotto is slicker, quicker and everything in between better than Cintron. I see this fight going similar to the Cotto vs. Judah.

Sergio should tell him to go stick it where the sun don't shine and why should he give a rematch to a guy he actually should have beat twice in one fight by ko and ud! Martinez should get it on with paul again, screw kermit what delusional douche.

Stop Press, no need for the Pac v PBF fight as there is no doubt who is better...... No doubt at all.

Martinez would beat Cintron again, but I think Cintron would have a very good chance against Cotto (and yes, I've felt this way since before the Pacquiao fight). Cotto's the better fighter, but he gets hit and he can be hurt.

I'm not so sure Cintron could beat Cotto. Cotto has already proven that he can take a beating and keep on coming for a good while. Cintron can bitch about Margaritos loaded gloves all he wants to, but one of the main reasons Cintron lost that fight is because Margarito took his best shots and kept coming forward. You don't need loaded gloves for that. When that happens to Cintron, his fighter mentality goes and he becomes extremely vulnerable. This is why I think Cotto has a good shot against him should they fight. I would still like to see Williams fight Cintron. I think Willimas wins it but it would be interesting to watch two tall welterweights.

There is no way that Cotto will be able to walk through Cintron's shots like Margarito did. Cintron landed some absolute bombs in the second fight and Margarito just grinned and kept coming forwards. Those same punches would to a lot more damage to a fighter like Cotto who has a good, but not great chin. Cotto could beat Cintron, I don't think Cintron could withstand his body attack for very long, but I also think Cintron has the power to hurt Cotto early, something which has happened to him before.

Good post CFH. I didn't mean to insinuate that Cotto would just walk through Cintrons shots. They would hurt him. But Cotto has alot of heart, in my opinion, much bigger than cintrons. And when two men skillfully are evenly matched, the one with the bigger heart will win. Very good point about the body shots though. Cotto has a ripping body attack and with the size of Cintron, that's a huge target to swing at. I think I've actually just convinced myself that this is a good fight for Cotto to get back in the saddle once hes fully recovered. A fight for Puerto Rican pride, a winnable fight, and a hell of a morale booster for him.

I definitely agree with that. If the fight does take place, I think it will be decided in the early rounds. That's where we'll find out if Cotto can handle Cintron's power and if Cintron will crumble before a superior fighter who outclasses him in almost every facet of the game.

Cintron gets beat by Cotto in a competetive affair.

Cintron has power, but he always looks so stiff and his defense is pretty poor. I would think Cotto would do a number on him.

Have always thought Cintron is physically everything you could ask for in a fighter but he gets stuck in between styles. But his grey matter faulters and its the Tin-man mindset in him that sticks with detractors.Martinez would again best him and I think Margarito as well.
