Default Cotto - Mayorga Fight Thread

I'm surprised I haven't seen any polls on this yet. With the fight only a week away, who do you think wins the fight, how will it be won, and why do you think that? All opinions are welcome and respected.

    Even hater opinions.

Cotto has hater in this forum? I don't think so.

I voted Cotto by late rd tko because he has become more cautious and well rounded boxer since working with Steward. He's gonna soften Mayorga first with bodyshots and the fight will be stopped in rd10. I think he's just too damn smart for Mayorga.

    Hhahaha!

I get why titofan has been such a little pissy pants now! After that sigbet remark I looked at his sig. I didnt realise he was a Peurto Rican. Does he think that because I know Mayorga will win that that means I despise Peurto Rico? Is boxing, or Cotto all they have or something?

    It's PUERTO Rico sir.

So honestly, what are the excuses going to be when Cotto wins? OOhhh mayorga is old? Mayorga wasn't in shape? Mayorga is past his prime(DUH)?

First learn how to spell, loser. It's Puerto Rico, as you were already told. And psssst... by the way, that little rectangle with the red and white stripes and the lone star.... that's the Puerto Rican flag. You should've been paying more attention in 5th grade.

But you're welcome to come over and I'll show you around... give you a little lesson in geography. Just get a note from your mommy so you don't get in trouble, ok?

Cotto will win. Why ? Cause he's fighting Ricardo mayorga. He'll do like any fighter worth a crap does. He'll see mayorgas crazy style in real life , think holy crap and panic for a sec , adjust , wait for mayorga to tire then ko him or just beat him damn near to death . Ricardo is even talking about fighting pac next ....that in itself shows me how serious to take the guy. If cotto looses then he'll know it's time to quit

Cotto by late TKO. Cotto's loses were from extraordinary circumstances, Margarito is a CHEAT and with his fight with PAC he was with a not so good trainer. Too bad the beating he took from the margarito fight alone softened his facial strcuture but otherwise as long as he is healed up he will destroy Mayorga. Cotto is the perfect blend of power and technique, Mayorga will not win.

i never liked cotto, and dont some knee-jerker come on here and say i'm raacist----i nevber liked cotto, period. is he skilled? yes. is he a good fighter? absolutely IMO. BUT IS HE A GREAT FIGHTER? NO. Not inmy opinion. He's like a ken Norton. really really good, but never making it to greatness. Will Mayorga win? Maybe. He's 37, and thats a 7 year disadvantage against 30 yr old Cotto. Thats a bad spread. But I like Mayorga. I like the quirky ones, the herky jerky ones, the impervious ones, the unorthodox ones. Mayorga by TKO in 3 or less. Shock the world. Gets a shot at Pacquiao, and will get KTFO in 1 round Im sure.

Pacqauio would whip Mayorga's ass but he sure as hell wouldn't KO him in 1 round.

In any case, I like that 80% of people are going with the safe favorite and picking Cotto in some fashion. Good. I like rooting for the under dogs and Mayorga is my favorite fighter.

The more I've thought about it the more I've begun to see the fight as Mayorga imposing his size, will, and power on Cotto, landing hard shots and stopping Cotto in the middle or later rounds.

Cotto is hittable. More hittable than other fighters Mayorga has faced. Mayorga may overwhelm Cotto early a la the Ricardo Torres fight, but with Mayorga coming out on top. OR Mayorga could get taken out himself with a sharply timed counter by Cotto OR from a great body shot or series of body shots.

It looks to be a competitive fight. People are underestimating Mayorga a lot in this fight. This is his LAST chance to make a living, to set up one more super fight after this. This is his last shot at redemption.

I watched a video on esnewsreporting.com, its Elie Seckbachs site. He was interviewing Doug Fischer from maxboxing and another bloke, they both took the safe pick but Doug contradicted himself by saying Cotto is easy to hit with uppercuts and overhand rights and thats what Mayorga is good at. He also said that he had spoken with Shane Mosley and interestingly he said that Mayorga is quicker than Cotto, I reckon he got that from Shane. What he did say that Shane told him is anyone who fights Mayorga has to watch out for the looping punches that land behind the ear and on top of the head and then those uppercuts. Mayorga hasnt stopped anyone decent for a while but he is so strong that his punches knock his opponents around the ring. He even did that with Oscar and Oscar actually told Shane that Mayorga has very heavey hands.Hes not a Trinidad, clean power type puncher but more a George Foreman bludgeoning type puncher. His punches will deffinitly be knocking Cotto around and I just dont see Cottos having as much of an effect on Mayorga as alot of easily led people here would have you believe.
Also for Mayorga to publcly lift his top to show off his physique, he must be proud of his training he has done. He wasnt as ripped as Manny but never will be at this weight but he was in better looking shape than the Mosley fight.
