Ricky Burns Targets Juan Manuel Marquez Title Showdown - Boxing News
Does he survive 12 rounds?
I would think JMM would beat him, but burns has been getting better with every fight so who knows, i dont think JMM would just blow him away thats for sure.
I strongly suspect that Burns is making a statement for the headlines, rather than genuinely looking for a fight with JMM. I reckon that if it happens Burns will have some success over early rounds, as he's naturally quite tall, but JMM would really start to get to him down the stretch, leading to a late stoppage.
I think Burns would receive a brutal beating.. They dont belong in the same stratosphere.
Burns need to stay on his level and face Supernatural Kevin Mitchell...
I mean, Mitchell is a notch above him as well in terms of ability but he has few screws loose inside his head so that evens it out..
Kevin Mitchell VS Burns on BOXNATION or wherever else they fight... So mouth watering...
War Mitchell!!!!
Do not let success go to your head and do not let failure get to your heart.
Does anyone know if burns really does still work in a shop and how much money do you reckon a fighter like burns takes home after all his fees.
Ive seen most of Kev.. I give him the benefit of a doubt for the Kat loss for many reasons.. First off, he wasnt ready for a fight of that magnitude. The guys was green at the time while Katsidis was at his peak...
Second, I know he didnt have the best training camp for that bout due to personal issues etc etc..
Third, Kev really underestimated Katsidis.. He figured that he'd walk through this one dimensional Katsidis and he definitely overlooked him a bit..
Seems like alot of Brits dont like him because of his shenanigans outside the ring but I could care less about all that. When I watch him fight, I see a supremely skilled Boxer-puncher, just the type of fighter that floats my boat.. I know he tends to be kookoo for cocopuffs outside the ring and i still question his mental toughness, but skillwise, he's up there close to Marquezs, Linares, and the Nonitos of the world.. He just has to put it all together..
Burns' win over a war torn Katsidis is overrated.
Burns performed nicely against kats, but that was a war torn kats who doesn't know anything but face first attack, and still gave a solid fight. Marquez, while certainly a bit shopworn still has some of the best skills in the sport, and wouldn't just lunge in with his face first. Hope burns is just doin it for publicity cause he can have success just not against marquez.
I'd go with Marquez stopping him
The Best There Is, The Best There Was, The Best There Ever Will Be
Kevin mitchell matches up better with marquez, stylewise. Pressure seems to bother him but marquez wouldnt fight him close. It would a technical boxing match between two highly skilled boxer punchers. This fight would be off the hook.
Burns, he is just ok but I dont think he is an elite fighter. Marquez would toy with him.
I've not always been a fan of Burns, and indeed I've criticised him in the past for pulling a few dirty tricks, but I do think he has improved and would have some success against JMM before getting worn down as it went on, and Burns then getting sparked. Put it this way, I'm sure whenever the fight is stopped that it wouldn't be Marquez taking every round.
Burns seemed to make easier work of Katsidis. Marquez found himself on the floor in that fight and had to fight out of his skin. I dont think 3rd Pac fight aged him much because it was a fairly uneventful fight.
Its all about timing. Marquez should still have enough left to beat Ricky but give it a year or two and I reckon Burns would be too much for the old Mexican.
We agree that Mitchell beats Burns. Cool.
But I think you are giving Burns too much credit for his boxing ability. BUrns is a fighter by nature, and boxer second.. Against a bull like Katsidis, Burns had to fight accordingly and play the role of a boxer and he deserves credit for that.. ( Even though Katsidis isnt the fighter he used to be and many fighters can look good, technically, against a one dimensional fighter like him )
Now because of this victory, people think Burns is some great boxer but he's really not that special in that department.
Against Marquez, I can pretty much guarantee you that Burns will be the aggressor because if he tries to box with the master boxer, he's going to get taken apart.. That much is for sure..
But then again, if he fights Marquez aggresively, that also leaves him vulnerable because come-forward fighters are tailor made for Marquez..
With that said, there is no way for Burns to win.... He can't outbox marquez nor can he outfight him.. He's doomed if he ever steps inside the ring with the Great One..
Kevin Mitchell has exceptional boxing ability and the punch to go along with it... He has a better chance imo..
