    Default Andrew 'Freddy' Flintoff...

Is turning into a pro boxer?? Story is in sky sports, on my phone so can't post the link but will do later. Can't believe this really, he was a fantastic cricket player but never in a millions years would I have thought old freddy Flintoff would have got the gloves on....wonder how he gets on. Apparently Barry McGuigan is training him?? And he's making his pro debut in November in Manchester.

Me, being from the USA, have no idea who you are talking about, but I am interested in anyone who switches careers. It takes more courage than most of us have, especially if you've had a successful first career. You said, "never in a million years", is that because he had a great career playing cricket, or he may be a little old to start boxing, or maybe you just can't picture him as a boxer? With Barry McGuigan in his corner, I'm thinking he's off to a good start! Keep us posted, it's the kind I like.

Now I think about it, to be honest with you Flintoff was a massive personality in the england team and a great character, he's got a good build and out of any cricketer in this country who would have turned into a pro boxer it could have been him. The reason why i did say never in a millions years would I have thought Flintoff would have turned pro was because of Ross' comment, he was very injury prone and it did limit his career on the pitch.

He was a fantastic all rounder though, outstanding with the bat and ball. Many a time have the England team relied on Flintoff to turn around matches with his performances. I was always sad to see Flintoff leave because he's such a likeable character, he's done a lot of stuff on the television post injury, and I'm pretty sure this is part of that really.

But back to Ross' point if he's fit enough to be a pro boxer , why the hell isn't he trying to get back into the england team?? With Kevin Peterson and Andrew Strauss retiring recentley, I would love Flintoff to get back to full fitness and play cricket again. He would fit into any side when fully fit.

This will give you a bit more of an idea of Flintoff, watching these videos does make me miss watching him play cricket. He was such a talent!!

I wouldn't begrudge anyone having a go at anything. What I would do though is prefer that young emerging talent in boxing who have made it their lives and are giving it their all get some column inches rather than half arsed tv shows "Giving Something A Go" where someone from another sport "Dangles" their foot in.

If he wasn't fit to continue playing Cricket, then no way in hell he's at all fit to train and fight as a boxer. I've been wrong about things before though. Maybe he's out of cash.

I see it being more a celeb boxing match than him facing a pro boxer.

If he does face a real pro the opponent will probably be paid to made him look good. There is no way that someone whos never boxed before can get ready to fight a pro in only a couple of months!

If it is genuine and a genuine journeyman pro, I think Fred Flintstone gets embarrassed.

read a fair bit on this today. I know he was a good cricket player but the levels of fitness needed are not anything like they are for boxing.

Being a successful sportsman already he will benefit from the mentality a successful sportsman needs and can have the mindset to dedicate himself to boxing but please don't anyone say that his fitness for cricket would help him box. As soon as games/tests what ever they are called were finished it was off to the pub/holiday etc and lets not forget he was known as a bit of a party boy back when he was active. I'm sure he hasn't let his retirement and supermarket advert career interrupt his drinking.

I have heard the MEN is booked for around the same time and Hatton could be making his comeback in the show. It's starting to sound a lot like a big exhibition/charity show. Perhaps it's all to build publicity for Hattons comeback

If Flintoff does turn pro then best of luck to him, perhaps it's a one off so he can say he did it.

I think Flintoff fighting is good for boxing, provided nothing disastrous happens he will bring in non-boxing fans who will appreciate the sport a little bit better. He does have dodgy knees and I think this is more about doing a documentary and continuing being famous/limelight than anything else.

Is November 30th the night Hatton is meant to be fighting at the MEN?

I don't like his chances at his age, but stranger things have happened in sport. I'm not sure what is more dangerous, avoiding a left hook flush on the jaw or ducking a cricket ball aimed at your head at close to 100mph? At least in cricket you have a helmet.
Flintoff has guts i'll give him that. Good luck to him.
