    Default Freddy Roach's P4P list

    From the recent Ring magazine.

    1.Manny Pacquiao
    2. Floyd Mayweather Jr.
    3. Juan Manuel Marquez
    4. Edwin Valero
    5. Shane Mosley
    6. Arthur Abraham
    7. Mikkel Kessler
    8. Andre Ward
    9. Israel Vazquez
    10. Amir Khan

Thought that was an interesting variation of the list.

I guess he is talking about talent rather than achievement.
Even in that case he is obviously still very wrong, but its more defendable.

I'm sorry how does he figure having Ward & Khan in there. I mean both are good promising fighters, but you could make a strong argument for neither being Top 5 in their division, let alone Top 10 in the world. I mean people are shocked at Khan, but his comp is presently at least si

Plus what has Valero done to be ranked at #4

I get the impression he probably just threw some names out. If he thought about it, he can't possibly mean that.

"Some will question picking Valero, but he has 25 victories by kayo without a loss....Ward has great boxing skills he looked very impressive against Miranda"

Then the rest of the article is selling you on Amir Khan, "great athlete, keeps up with manny, my next superstar, ect."

Also Pacquiao probably isn't top 5 at 147 either but the talent is there so he's rated 1 on the P4P list. I think Roach was just alluding to the fact that Kessler, Abraham and Ward are all very talented guys who potentially could justify that ranking.

Is being a top super middleweight enough to make Kessler in the top 10 P4P?! Up until 6 or 7 it was a good list

It's almost sweet seeing him try and boost Khan's self confidence too...

"What's that Amir? you drew me a picture? wow... did Van Gough draw this!! I'll put it on the fridge so that everyone can see it!"

No, Kessler & Abraham maybe but even that is doubtful. But beating Edison Miranda in a not particularly impressive performance for me doesn't do it. I know you're a fan but you can't justify him being the 8th best fighter in the world, when some don't even consider him among the best 8 fighters at SMW (not me, but I know people who don't).

Also Pacquiao IS #1 at 140. Abraham isn't anything at 168, but at MW, he was certainly the #2 guy, some might argue the best at the weight.

Valero has 25 wins, but he has not beaten a single credible opponent worthy of ranking him as the 4th best fighter on the planet.

I think only 4 fighters on there (PBF, Pac, JMM & Shane) could actually be said to be definitively among the best 10 boxers on the planet.

Everything in quotes is what Roach said btw. I'm a big Andre Ward fan but even I'm not ready to include him in any P4P discussions. If he beats Kessler that all changes.
