Just hearing from Deontay Wilders manager that they're lining Fres Oqendo up as his next opponent. what do you guys think of this match? And are we still suprised that his potential opponent is still of quite poor standard?

Yuck
And the bum tour continues choo choo! Another easy KO for wilder..
you make a fair point... fres is older now and was never that great even in his younger days :S but he is skilled and has been winning fights recently and has been fairly active, wilder could fight a lot worse for sure.. i think this is the right way for wilder to go.. he needs to step it up but one thing at a time.. if he gets through oquendo he needs to keep upping the competition like this....
I'm looking forward to this onew will be interesting to see how he deals with a skilled guy
naw man that has nothing to do with it.. Even when he was young, I viewed him as nothing more than a fringe contender type, a stepping stone for the good prospects and contenders.
Just look at his history.. He couldnt even beat an ancient McCall, Holyfield and Toney.. Lost to a CW in Mormeck and got knocked out by Ruiz.. What more needs to be said?
He may not be shot like Liakhovich but he sure aint a better fighter than Liakhovich..
I would literally be shocked if Oquendo gave WIlder problems..
He was unlucky not to win the 3 fights in bold. If he got fair decisions hed be on a 13 fight winning spree. Never stopped early so hopefully hell give Wilder a few rounds. I reckon hell be stopped in the 5th or 6th but its better then his recent fights. Him and Liackhovic are similar standards, prime for prime, Liackhovic is better but he was completely shot when he fought Wilder so this does represent a step up
Wilder has been on a bum of the month campaign since he started his career. This is actually a step up for him. It's extremely sad that it has taken so long, but finally a half decent fighter on a semi-decent run of form.
Wilder hasn't shown that he is top 10 material at all yet, and again, a further sad reflection on the padding of his rather woeful looking career record.
Yeah this shits gona bite deontay in the ass sooner or later, probably later the way his career is going. fighting complete stiffs and has beens with no improvement in competition, what the hell is the point![]()
Yup. But, everyone is waiting on that Chris Byrd/David Tua moment. That moment when we expected a big puncher to blast away a smaller, older and less harder punching opponent- and the fight went the distance in an amazing, turn around UD for the guy that was supposed to get his head knocked off!!
But, speaking of Tua, he was getting beat by Fres until Fres got lazy and got caught- then it was a matter of seconds before the fight ended.
Can Fres take a Wilder punch and not go down in smoke? We will have to see.
Bigger man George, bigger punch!

Literally shocked? Haha
It's not good but it's not awful considering the rest of his weak competition. Fres is ranked 34 in the world. If he takes on a top 20 guy next this fight is passable.
If this is the height to which his people are aiming to prove something I'm convinced there are skeletons in his closet. Fres is a tricky cat...but he's also yet another 40 yr old who last fought a guy previously destroyed by the formidable Audley Harrison *cough* just prior. This is stay busy additional padding considering Wilder is all but guaranteed a title shot from wbc. Wilder strikes me like a guy where people have become so desperate for a step up that we could be missing what is yet just another step sideways. Enough baby steps.
