Default Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Round Brewster vs Lya-who? Kovich!

Alrighty people the weekend is once again upon us. Cellllllllllllllllllllllllebrate good times come on!!! It's a celebration!!!

Chill the mugs, pop some caps, & kick back on the couch...it's time for another installment of Wacko's Drunken Round by Round!

On ShowTime this Saturday night April the 1st, 2006 wev'e got yet another stroke through the swamp that was once the glorious heavyweight wading pool.

What was a rich & exciting division...the flagship of boxing, if you will...is now nothing more than a series of contant disappointment after disappointment after disapointment when it comes to title fights...but we have one of the most compelling fighters of the bunch making another title defense this weekend...so maybe there is still hope.

Lamon Brewster (33 wins with 29 ko's & 2 losses) matches power against...well...Wacko really can't say seeing as how I have very limited knowledge of Serguei Lyakhovich (22 wins with 14 ko's & 1 loss)...hey...atleast I admit it. Heh heh heh.

That being said...the questions regarding this match could easily fill up two or three pages of forum time if one really pushed the issue...but there are only a few questions that I really give a shat about & want an answer too...

First & most importantly...BAM!!!...which Lamon Brewster will show up? The one that almost got beaten by Wladimir Klitschko but gutted it body, mind, heart, & soul to scrape out a controversial win (?) or the one that showed up unmotivated to lose to Clifford Etienne? If the Brewster that blasted out Golota in 52 seconds shows up...we'll all be happy campers...but on the other hand...nobody wants to see the Brewster that struggled for 12 rounds with the trashman Kali Meehan get awarded a gift decision.

Unfortunately...this is actually what I think that we might get. But I'll be happy if he proves me wrong...it'd be nice to have a heavyweight champion to get behind (& I don't mean get behind in a CuteMick way either ) for a change.

For some reason...I just can't get into Brewster...but maybe he will turn out to be what Don King touts him as..."the Modern Day Cinderella Man" or "the Black Rocky"...but you have to look at who those nicknames are coming from.

Second & only slightly important...BAM!!!...who is Serguei Lya..Lya-what? Lya-who? Lyakhovich!

So secondly...who is Serguei Lyakhovich & what is his deal?

I mean, technically, I know who he is...& I know about his record...but is he a decent fighter? Again, I admit that I don't know a hell of a lot other than his handle is "the White Wolf" (...which I might add borders on cheese) & that he's fought & beaten only Dominick Guinn of name. We all know that Dominick has been on a down hill slide for about the past 2 years or so & to beat him doesn't really say much because in the end...Dominick Guinn is nothing more than a name of a previously hyped heavy hopeful. Say that really fast the times! So again...who is Serguei Lyakhovich & what is his deal? Does he have enough skills to take Brewster the distance? Surely if it goes 12 Lyakovich will win...because let's face it...Brewster does'nt do to well down the stretch.

So what's the answer folks? If youv'e got a better set of questions...bring 'em up...let's talk...but be sure to try & give me your opinions on the questions posed also...

Third & of course the last question is this...BAM!!!...being that it's the end of March madness & basketball is being crammed down everyone's throats...coupled with the fact that (let's face it) these names don't really even get boxing fans excited...will anyone other than true boxing fans watch the fight. Brewster vs Lyakhovich starts at 11PM on Saturday night...so let me just go ahead & prepare you for the drunkest of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds ever...EVER!!!

That's waaaaaaaaay to late in the drinkin game to start coverage...but we all do what we can to get by. Heh heh heh.

So after all you poon heads basket ball fans watch the games...you can flip over to this intriquing heavyweight title after the NCAA semi-finals drops on the last net. Oh bwoy!

That being said...with the usual banter over & done with...it's time to get back into the thick of it. Break out the chips & salsa...your "kidney killer" of choice...& get crackin with the usual weekend festivities!!!

    Cheers & koneecheewah bitches!

I'm a little worried. Lamon shows up for the big fights, but this isn't a big fight.

    right back.

He should have the attitude that every fight is a big fight from here on out IWO.

He needs to see that he's got the title & he's got the power to keep it...if he'll use it.

Surely not...I can either do the RBR or just some highlites here & there...or just the results...whatever you people want...because you know that if it's boxing & it's on the telee...I'll be watchin it.

Nah, I hate to pick on a guy who fights for a living but Griffin bores me to tears

I'm actually more interested in seeing if this Kevin Johnson guy is a good HW prospect

    Day-Before-Fight Quotes!

    March 31, 2006

    http://www.fightnews.com/1109.htm

Lamon Brewster (33-2, 29 KOs), of Los Angeles, by way of Indianapolis, Ind., will make the fourth defense of his World Boxing Organization (WBO) title when he takes on once-beaten Sergei "The White Wolf'' Liakhovich (22-1, 14 KOs) Saturday, April 1, 2006, on SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING (11 p.m. ET/PT, delayed on the west coast). The 12-round world title fight will be promoted by Don King Productions and take place at the Wolstein Center at Cleveland State University in Cleveland, Ohio. This will be the first heavyweight world championship bout to take place in the city since 1983.

The SHOWTIME telecast will be presented at a special time to accommodate fans tuning in to the NCAA's Men's Final Four on CBS. The SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING broadcast will be part of a SHOWTIME Free Preview Weekend (March 31-April 3) when the network will open its signal to 45 million TV households nationwide.

Both fighters spoke about the fight today at the Hilton Garden Inn in Cleveland:

"RELENTLESS'' LAMON BREWSTER (33-2, 29 KOs)

"My form of fighting is formless. It is like water. By being formless, I have my mind open to a lot of things. It allows me to not be surprised in the ring."

"How I fight depends on how I feel when the bell rings."

"Right now, there are a lot of smoke screens from different heavyweight fighters about what they can do. James Toney has the talent, but not the conditioning. Hasim Rahman has the conditioning and heart, but not the skills of a Toney. Chris Byrd is a proven heavyweight."

"I did not fight to my potential against Kali Meehan. He is my friend. I did not go all out and it almost cost me my title. I definitely held back. That is why I made a statement against Andrew Golota."

"My faith in God led me to Buddy McGirt. He made me realize that I have a left hand that would make my right hand jealous."

"When (former trainer) Bill Slayton died, I was like a puppy without its mother. Other trainers put a cap on what I could do. McGirt helps bring out the best in me."

"I want the WBC (World Boxing Council) heavyweight title no matter who is holding it. If Wladimir Klitschko gets past Byrd, and that is a distinct possibility, I want to fight him for personal reasons."

"I am not playing checkers. I am playing chess. I am going to put other fighters on that clock. I am (legendary chess player) Bobby Fischer, baby."

"It is shameful that we live in a day and time that people do not know who the heavyweight champion is."

"You can take any dog and put him in the ring against a pit bull. The pit bull is always going to win. You cannot go toe-to-toe with a pit bull. That is what Andrew Golota tried to do."

"I do not have a degree. I come from the school of hard knocks. I cannot work a nine-to-five job. I have to fight to provide for my family."

    Buddy McGirt (Brewster's trainer)

"Once Brewster realizes how good he really is, the heavyweight division is in serious trouble. He still has a way to go."

"When Brewster gets his rhythm, I can just sit back and enjoy this fight."

SERGEI "THE WHITE WOLF" LIAKHOVICH (22-1, 14 KOs)

"I have many weapons. I have a real good right hand. What I use depends on the situation."

"We looked at three of Brewster's fights. He fights the same way all of the time."

"I like how Toney fights, but I do not think he gave his best for the Rahman fight."

"Mike Tyson and I train at the same gym in Arizona. I saw him, but never spoke to him."

    Kenny Weldon (Liakhovich's trainer)

"We will do whatever is necessary to beat Brewster's hook. If we beat his hook, we beat Brewster."

"Brewster pulls his head first, than throws the hook. He is going to hit you with the hook 90 percent of the time."

    They both sound determined huh?

Has Johnson thrown anything but the jab? At least, unlikely Audley, he actually throws it pretty regularly but watching him is just horrible. Hopefully he'll just retire, horrible
