Do not let success go to your head and do not let failure get to your heart.
If he wouldn't get in there with Harry Wills I doubt he'd feel good about taking on one of the more modern black giants.
I figure if a guy like Frank Bruno was around back then (and the size he was), a lot of those white boxers would have looked for another line of work!
Frank Bruno got as big as he did due to advances in training and most importantly Healthcare. Back in Tunney's day women still drank & smoked and did God knows what else while with child....so yeah IF IF IF all you like but I don't see anyone with a time machine around here
Nonsense. Currently, there's not a single black american Heavyweight of note in the world-sport of Boxing even though there's about maybe 20 million black american men.
These non-black fighters of the teens and 20s came from poverty and rough backgrounds. It ain't a fighter's color that makes for a fighter...
The irony of a thread called Lets end the Mike Tyson debate, yet it has lasted for 18 pages.
You say tomato,
‘n I say …… it correctly.
I just say that Tyson was not the smartest fighter in the world because he could not adapt Lewis and Holyfeild could do it. As for Bean the 90's is the other era beside the 70's and Tyson got his ass kick by the top of that era that is the reason i cant put him high in the top ten. As for him beating Holyfeild what a joke he got his ass kick by a Holyfeild with heart problems, older and more battle worn, and also had hep b. Holyfeild was a 20 to 1 underdog and he kick his ass like he owed him some money or something. Tyson is just what ifs Holyfeild, Lewis and Ali didn't need the what if they did.

If you're going to shit on Mike Tyson for not being able to adjust to Lennox at that point in his career, then go ahead and shit on Muhammad Ali for not being able to adjust to Larry Holmes and Trevor Berbick, shit on Ray Robinson for not being able to adjust to Joey Archer.
Just read some post about Tyson KO's not being impressive.
All big time fighters have many hand picked oppenents. Thats not to say they don't take on and overcome their biggest challenges. And thats also not to say Tyson himself conquered any of his biggest challenges. But to say its not impressive to KO 23 or more professional heavy wieght boxers in the first round isnt impressive is crazy. Alot of them top 10 at the time.
I doubt any other fighter has KO'd 20 opponents in the first round.
What? Tell me you still don't believe that sht. That sht was used for marketing purposes way back in the day.
Yeah sure there are still a majority of African American pro athletes in football and basketball, but the NBA and NFL union, who basically run the NBA and NFL, are all founded by Africans Americans.
Trust me there is no difference outside of marketing.
