    I'll get around to updating the first post with the list of all the cards we'e done. I know I haven't updated the last few fights. Been busy.

    Here's our next fight. Not only a controversial decision by the judges, but just an overall great fight that everyone should watch again.

    May 8, 2004. Manny Pacquiao (38-2-1, 30 KO) vs. Juan Manuel Marquez (42-2, 33 KO) for Marquez's WBA and IBF Featherweight Titles. This was Pacquiao's first fight after his dominating TKO victory over Marco Antonio Barrera. The judges at ringside scored the fight 115-110 Pacquiao, 115-110 Marquez, and 113-113, resulting in a split decision draw.

    Marquez pretty much figured out Pacquiao after the 2nd round. He had his timing down, And was countering effectively. Pac lost his rhythm and was at times reduced to lunging. He landed some big shots here and there. But Marquez was pretty much controlling the fight.

    2. 18-8 (pisses me off when JMM fans/Pac haters say JMM won 11 rounds in this fight and they include the 2nd round, Pac had more than twice as many punches landed and looked great again in this round only thing missing was a knockdown, you dont give a fighter a round for surviving an expected massacre)

    7. 19-16
    8. 8-11 (funny, this and the 1st round were the only rounds the judge that had JMM winning the fight gave to Pacman, but i had Pac losing in this round)

    when it all comes down to it. officially Pacman should of won it but one of the judges didnt know how to score correctly, if they can take back incorrect math for the draw in Barrera vs. Juarez 1 why cant they take back human error in this fight. and to the JMM fans who think it is JMM who got robbed, all i can say is, there are thousands of fights where the judges saw it one way but the fans saw it the other, but i can only think of one fight when a judge said "oops i screwed up, can i fix it?" that would of changed the outcome of the fight.

    Saw the fight again. Both fighters were pretty banged up. But I have to agree that it should not have been a technical draw. A lot of JMM backers crow that Manny was schooled in this fight but in my opinion, what was amazing was how JMM crawled back from what should have been a loss to earn a controversial draw. I don't think JMM won the fight. IMO Pacman should have won convincingly but did not. Over confidence after the knockdowns perhaps? I saw Manny trying to knock out Marquez instead of trying to win the fight. It was not defeat that I saw in Manny's eyes at the end of the fight but more of frustration. Remember, this fight was before his so called boxing improvements became evident. I think Pacman learned a lot from this fight as with the first fight with EM.

    I can almost see a different outcome if they fight again. Manny knows he can hurt Marquez. Marquez will again rely on his counter punching skills thinking that Manny will not have an answer for this (what else does he have in his arsenal - power? Manny can take his best punches). Freddie Roach knows this and will probably come up with a strategy to over power marquez and neutralize his counter punching abilities. The danger with Manny is that you don't know what to expect anymore. He continuous to evolve. Very unpredictable. This to me will be the fight to define Manny's pursuit of being acknowleged as the best of the best. Defeating a master counter puncher will be a large feather in Manny's hat.

    Iremeber the fight as Marquez schooling Pac after the 1st but on rewatching it I think Pac came back into it abit in the 10th cuz Marquez got lazy .

    In the 1st round JMM was caught cold . The 1st two knockdowns werent too bad but after the third he straightened his body and lay back down. It looked like he accpeted defeat. Pac looked good in the second too but after that he was running out of ideas. Marquez sweeped the next 7 rounds on my card , just plain outboxing his 1 dimensionla opponent . Got lazy in the 10th but closed the show with two big rounds . 3 rounds doesnt sound like a convincing win but in my eyes he was a clear winner . Cant believe 1 judge gave it to Pac . I thought there would be uproar but Marquez can blame himself for not following up when he hurt Pac with right hands .

    Round 1 - Pacquaio knockdowns JMM 3 times.
    Round 2 - Pacquaio gets this one, JMM still shocked from the 3 knockdowns but have shown signs of recovery.
    Rounds 3-6 - Marquez nice counterpunching. Pacquiao was out of his game.
    Round 7 - A close one. Pacquaio have some good hits. But still Marquez controls this round.
    Round 8 - Another close one. Still Marquez's round.
    Round 9 - A close round, Pacquiao take's this one.
    Round 10 - A clear round for Pacquiao. Landed some jab-straight combinations which he couldn't all night since Rounds 1 and 2.
    Round 11 - A close round for Marquez.
    Round 12 - A close round for Pacquiao.

    * Rounds 7, 8, 9, 11 and 12 are close rounds for me. Over-all, an impressive comeback by Marquez. I understand why his fans are clamoring for victory. But a 10-6 round 1 is a huge defecit early in the game. If not for it, it was a lopsided decision for Marquez.

    I hope they could fight again and see who truly wins this time.
