Yeah Ray Charles "had to turn his life around"....he was a self indulgent sad case for quite a while.
I still think The Rolling Stones are better than The Beatles...they weren't as poppy and they had a better blues sound to their songs

And The Stones couldn'tI think the Stones had better range than the Beatles....listen to "Brown Sugar" and "Midnight Rambler" then listen to "Dead Flowers" or "The Girl With Far Away Eyes"....they could do blues and country and all the crazy psychodellic stuff as well and even had some stuff which could be classified as disco "Miss You", "Emotional Rescue".
I like The Beatles, I just think they are too poppy to be considered the greatest ROCK band of all-time. They did have some great stuff as well though
Why they are is theres at least one song even your grandparents like.
Your Mother Should Know-Big Band
Michelle-Folk
Helter Skelter-Proto Metal
The first two records-Straight rock
A Day In A lIfe-maybe one of the nastiest songs ever written
Lucy In The Sky-Acid Rock
Let It Be-Black Spiritual
Act Naturally-C/W
Almost no band ever existing had that range, its a crying shame their egos got in the way of making music together
the VERVE were better than oasis!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!![]()
lol Lyle, it is almost, well no, not almost, it IS funny to watch you get so personally offended when someone doesn't agree with you on something, and then how you focus on one aspect of the others arguement. I will never think that Elvis is better then the Beatles (and especially not as a band nudge nudge wink).
I will always respect Elvis for what he has done and think him a great performer, but ultimately, yes, he shortened his legacy with his "self-destructive, self-indulgent, sad case" lifestyle.
Try to get things in perspective. In the little I've read about about Elvis it is cited how near the end his performances were really starting to be affected by his lifestyle and his focus on near everything was slipping, badly and sadly.
But the fact remains, Elvis ain't no band, sunshine. Make a thread about who the best rock and roll performer was, and maybe then you will have more weight to your arguement. I might even agree with you. (or I might not, just to watch you get soooo wound up)![]()
Nahhhh you are wrong!! The Verve were a great band, but short lived. I like Richard Ashcrofts solo stuff too. But they aint better than Oasis, I aint havin that
I love that era of "britpop" though in the 90's: Oasis, Verve, Manics, Ocean Colour Scene, Cast, Phonics, James, Suede. Quality!
...perhaps you're familiar with the song "Walkin on the fightin side of me"
So The Beatles wrote the majority of their songs big fucking deal....it doesn't make Elvis less talented of a singer.
Elvis' "cheesey gimmick" was singing, soul, and charisma
The Beatles and Stones did exactly what Elvis did....copy Black musicians Blues and Jazz and made it their own until they went on to other stuff.
You can't find a band or singer (after Elvis came around) that wasn't influenced by Elvis...
