Rahman doesn't get to make that decision though. If you get headbutted the fighter doesn't get to decide whether he will continue or not, that is left up to the doctor and the referee. If the doctor says you can continue than you have to fight or take the "L." The doctor waved off the fight not because of the cut, but because Rahman said he couldn't see. The doctor hadn't even checked the cut yet, and Rahman was already indicating he didn't want to go on. Thats a TKO and not a NC.
Nah your wrong Bilbo he could have fought with that cut at least 1 more round, he didnt want any kind of scorecard being brought into it.
James really seemed to be turning it up in the third. Too bad the fight ended the way it did. I think the commision will overturn it to a no-contest.
I can go along with the technicalities and "Rules are rules" but we all know what this was. Rahman said He could not see clearly.Upon wiping it there was no blood flowing and they packed it/treated it ready for next round.Thay actually asked for verification on the headbutt and upon hearing there desired answer ,Rahman looked to massage the rules and settle for an out as opposed to sucking it up and giving himself a chance......He did a brokeback mountain and "quithimself" and is probally regretting it much right now!
But Rahman didn't stop the fight though, the referee stopped the fight on advice of the doctor.
The decision was taken out of Hasim's hands. He didn't refuse to fight, he said he couldn't see, and then the referee stopped the fight.
If Rahman had refused to fight and the doctor told the ref he felt he could continue then absolutely it should be a TKO win for Toney, but instead the referee took it upon himself to stop the fight, on account of a cut sustained by a headbutt. Under the rules it HAS to be a no contest.
It will be overturned.
I see it as he quit in his corner. He should have at least tried to make a fight of it, but seemed to want the easier way out.
He was complaining that he could not see, he wanted the ref to stop it. Cuts are a part of the sport. Fighters are expected to fight through them no matter how they are caused unless the doctor determines otherwise.
On that note though I can see them later on declaring it a no contest. One of those tough calls.
The ref jumped the gun because Rahman was whining like a bitch. We all know Toney was gonna KTFO out of the Rock, even if it gets ruled a NC.
Just because he never has exhibited signs of being a quitter before doesn't mean thats not what happened here. The stakes have never been higher for Rahman than in this fight. Never has his career been on the line. I think he panicked and thought he found a way out that backfired on him.
Oh and quit trying play off like you arent a closet Toney fan Bilbo. Don't be ashamed just accept it man you'll feel better about yourself.
A closet fan? I'm one of Toney's most vocal and biggest fans. Me and Hulk are founding members of the JFAT Alliance.
For my first two years here I had James Toney as my avatar pic.
But all of that is beside the point. I'm glad Toney won but I don't like poor decisions.
This was a bad call. Yeah I would have liked to see Toney knock Rahman out and I too felt he was getting on top in that third round but it was still a cut caused by a headbutt that was the reason for the fight being stopped.
Rahman won the first round, the second I felt Toney shaded but it was close.
Then Rahman got cut and suddenly he was getting hit. It's clear as day it was having an effect on him.
I still think rahman was looking for a way out. The cut wasn't bleeding that bad. Yes it was in a bad spot, but I've seen worse go on, look at Marquez Vs. Pac his whole eye was a gash and he never had a thought of quitting or going to the cards.
Rahman quit and took the easy way out.... James was only 226 which was the lightest he's been since fighting Holyfield... I like Haye but he isint knocking out James Toney if they fight
