How are blacks treated in the UK?

When I was in highschool, there wasn't a lot of overt prejudice against blacks, but East Endians (Ragheads, Turban Twisters, etc) did take a lot of crap. Some of us were real bastards. It was to my everlasting regret that I participated in some of that stuff.

We've all done it mate, said or thought something when stooping down to the level of placing someone of one race into the old "OH them" basket".

You have learned the lesson,so be free from it ,it has served its purpose.
You would never go there again ,so that was a blessing.
Don't carry any guilt with you into the future or its self defeating, no need for any punishment ,even self inflicted guilt styled ones, if the lessons are learnt ,the job was well done, however harsh the process.Thats life its why we are here .

I appreciate the thought. Perhaps I overstated the situation. I doesn't keep me awake at night, the things I did years ago. Just a few little pangs of regret I guess, when I do think of it. cheers.

I gotta say I never felt like I was being treated differently because I was black in Canada. Granted, I've only been to Windsor, but every time I've ever been there has been a good experience. The people are always extremely helpful when necessary and friendly to a fault. If my wife and I ever leave Michigan--whoa, sidenote; Roberto Duran is FAT--Canada is on the shortlist of places we might relocate to.

I was watching a fight when typing my response and they showed Duran in the crowd. The guy looks like he ate Roberto Duran, fists of stone and all. He's easily over 200 pounds. Maybe 250.

It is a fairly accurate stereotype, I find it is used most frequently by the middle-aged generation (35-50), but pretty much everyone uses it. We don't even notice that we do it.

If you stay here for an extended period of time, it'll find it's way into your vocabulary as well, its inevitable.

The Islanders are a terrible franchise. They can't do anything right. The Dipeitro (sp) contract is going to be an albatros, and what they did at the draft this year would be laughable if it wasn't so sad. Trading a top 5 pick, which Toronto used to draft stud defenseman Luc Schenn, then trading the #7 pick to Nashville for the #9 pick, and drafting Josh Bailey!?! As a Canucks fans I was overjoyed that they didn't take Hodgson (who is destroying the OHL), but I felt so sorry for Islanders fans at that point.

WHere I live, crack is very serious problem to be honest, in Vancouver it is even worse.

If crack (or heroin, or meth) are your thing, I suggest the downtown eastside. Nasty place, it has the highest rates of HIV/AIDS infection in all of North America I believe. I talked to a guy from NYC who said it was as rough as any part if NYC he had seen.
