Default Jennings v Cotto......Are you for Real??!!

In February 2009 Miguel Cotto fights Michael Jennings for the WBO Welterweight title! If ever i was going to have a bet on an early stoppage its for this fight, clearly a complete mismatch. Similar to when Howard Clarke ridiculously fought Fernando Vargas a few years back!

    Any views on this??

Cotto did not want to fight Jennings but Arum said it was Jennings or no one at all so, Cotto has to fight Jennings. I am not sure this will prove anything but I guess Arum wants to see if Cotto has lost it or still has what it takes. Many have written Cotto off and most have said Cotto will never be the same. Anyway.. I can't wait to see him in the ring again. I don't think Cotto is done. I do believe that he is still hungry and I hope he has more against Margarito in the rematch. I thought to myself, if Cotto can keep the fight in the middle of the rather than on the ropes, Cotto has a good chance of beating Margarito. Reminds me of what Freddy was telling PAC last night. "As soon as you feel your back touch the ropes MOVE OUT OF THERE!'

Shame about the opposition but I just want to see him back in the ring, I really do have a gut feeling he has learned an important lesson and improved. I sometimes feel that when a fighter wins great fights(like Miguel did)consistantly they stop improving/learning new things and focus on what they are good at rather than what they COULD add to their arsenal.

As i have said many times Michael Jennings is no joke, he will make Miguel Cotto look bad for the first few rounds. Because he has good footwork.

But i think the body punching from Miguel Cotto will be too much. And he will wear down Michael Jennings and stop him in the 8th round, but i don't think Michael Jennings will be embarrassed in this fight by any means.

Most of the people saying this fight is a joke and ETC, haven't even seen Michael Jennings fight. I have because quite alot of his fights have been shown on ITV over here, and im telling you now. For a comeback fight its a decent test for Miguel Cotto. This is nothing like Gary Lockett vs Kelly Pavlik.

    I think it is.

Somewhere in between Lockett-Pavlik and Cotto-Gomez.

I agree Jennings might get into the latter rounds but only if he goes into survival mode. Which i think he will do after taking a few heavy shots.

    Hope i'm wrong.

What i don't get is how everyone is saying this is a very legitimate comeback fight yet Hatton - Lazcano wasn't.

Granted it was on ppv but still surely the gripe was with the level of opposition?

Hows Jennings any better than Lazcano?

    It really isnt

Michael Jennings while being a decent little fighter has more than enough flaws in him to suggest cotto will take him apart.

Having seen jennings on ITV more than a good half a dozen times i can safely say he wont be asking cotto too many questions!!
    one dangerous horrible bloke

Find a quote from me where I criticized Hatton for taking the Lazcano fight. Everybody gets a layup once in a while it's only a problem when you take 4 crap fights for every one legit one. I never blamed Hatton for fighting Lazcano.

Cotto been in more fights with good to excellent quality opponents than anybody fighting actively right now other than Pac or Oscar. Going back 5 years, he's only been in soft a couple of times (Gomez, Branko, Abdulev). Pretty much all the rest were solid choices for those points in his career.
