Default A tentative deal reached for Cotto-Michael Jennings

its on boxingscene, according to Cotto's legal adviser a deal has been agreed to in principle with Top Rank and Arum and Frank Warren for a fight with Cotto and Jennings.

On February 21 most likely in Atlantic City.

Whiled the conditions have been agreed to it has not been signed yet apparently, hence the tentative part.

He is a good domestic British fighter. He throws very good straight punches, which is ideal against the hooks of Cotto but he is way out of his league. It is a chance that Jennings cannot refuse and ideal warm up for Cotto because Jennings is not a huge puncher and has never been stopped.

I've never seen Jennings fight either.

Would this be comparative to the Cotto/Gomez fight?

Or, more competitive than that, but the same early ending?

Looking forward to seeing Cotto back in the ring I can wait even if it is a tune up. Seems like its been awhile.

The mismatch is about the same (I'd put Jennings/gomez at a similar level), but stylistically Jennings stays on the outside pumping LOADS of jabs, so he should last longer, but will inevitably be brutalised before the end IMO.

    Pavlik, Cotto PPV twinbill!
    By Karl Freitag
Promoter Bob Arum revealed today that Top Rank is planning a major pay-per-view telecast on February 21 featuring WBC/WBO middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik defending his title, plus two division champion Miguel Cotto fighting for the world title. The telecast will be split between two locations. Pavlik is expected to face Marco Antonio Rubio, while Cotto is expected to face Michael Jennings for the WBO welterweight belt vacated by Paul Williams.

I've seen quite a few of his fights over here in the UK, he moves well. Pretty good boxer with good stamina, but he is out of his league. But i don't think this will be a walk in the park. Michael Jennings is no joke and i don't think he is that far from world class.

Jennings is a light punching domestic fighter , who in my opinion has no chance of winning ,

Jennings is a decent fighter but he always looks so frail to me. Of course I'll be hoping for a miracle but Jennings is going to get bashed up good and proper. This could be ugly.

Jennings could do well early.. constantly on his toes, bouncing in and out, he might make Cotto look a bit pedestrian.

Before Cotto inevitably outclasses - and duffs him up.

This will be a Brian Hughes waving it off job.
