When its all said and done, and defiantly for some of the wrong reasons....it was an exciting ride.It was as if he had a panic button affixed to his grey matter....when it got deep and adversity came calling,he retreated like a turtle hiding in his shell.Strong jab, nice power, hard chin, built like a tank....all for not and the he is the living testament to what is meant when people say "Boxing is 75% mental".He did not have it upstairs, period.
That being said,I thought he deserved the fight vs, John Ruiz.Fought very well.and played a part in getting that fat mouthed lunatic Norm Stone (?) something expelled from ringside LMAO,Priceless viewing that was.You could argue the call with Byrd as well Imo.Marion Wilson was jobbed in their rematch. That look in his eyes after Lewis bludgeoned him to the canvas was just amazing....."I see dead people"
when ring magazine run an article on the big four heavys-holyfield, bowe, lewis, ruddock - big george was the only expert(make your own mind up abt that) that said that Lennox was the best, and there must of been 20 experts. this was before lewis destroyed ruddock.
big george was always media friendly, nice chap, i aint been lucky enough to meet him just saw him at the tyson francis fight & he was givin out pure love to the fans.
There's usually a method to Foreman's madness. It's just his way of making a point. e.g. the way Hopkins was dominating Trinidad, getting tired was one of the bigger risks. I'm not sure what Bowe was doing that got George's attention, but the Ali courage remark was obviusly a reference to Ali doing the rope-a-dope in Zaire. That took quite a bit of balls I would say.
