Happy Memorial Day Weekend

Don't know what your plans are tomorrow Stateside but alot of activity locally.Going down to D-day museum for a bit.....Ive been twice,and both time its the ww II vets speaking that take precedence over any & all displays.Very humbling.Few west bank parades honoring La. armed service members.

Talked to my father tonight.Like to call him last few years on this day as hes been opening up now a days,getting older.Almost like he needs an ear and will just start talking about his experiences out of the blue,at the oddest of times.I dont know if anyone has seen that old series "Letters home".I watched it back in high school when it came on HBO originally.Pretty hard view in spots frankly.We need to remember them all people....seems every generation dims on the History just a bit no matter the era or conflict.Just running on,a few segments here.

Sounds interesting. Working as a engineer for Chysler years ago, my dad knew a guy from work before that operated a landing craft for the beachhead invasion just like in Saving Private Ryan. The scary thing is that those guys had to make multiple trips back and forth ferrying troops, a lot of those drivers didn't survive. He seen a lot of death during those days, but turned out alright from what I was told. I have nothing but the utmost respect for the guys that put their ass and life on the line time, time and again.

It really puts things into perspective when you get a chance to speak with them.Everything you think is soooo important or spend time dwelling on is immediately minimized in the big picture.Day to day strife seems like a cakewalk.I went this AM,the crowds are always massive.I think that is a great thing.They have a huge presentation on Andrew Higgins and the construction of those same landing craft down here.The history and evolution of the idea,they have a headline quoting Ike "The man that won the war for us" but from the curators and ones you talk to there....Higgins would have none of it really.The GI's in them....going to the shores claimed that honor.Your right,can you imagine not only going ashore once.....but as a driver knowing that you have to go right back.A real eye opener.Seems like every generation goes through it,and we as a whole,especially Stateside can never do enough for them,be they pre wwII up to Iraq .Utmost respect indeed!
