    Benny Kid Paret
    Davey S Moore
These two fighters died within 12 months and boxing was almost banned because of it, songs were written about both of them.

Any fighter who has lost his life in the ring is a tragedy and has paid the ultimate price, people may argue about the brutality of the sport and boxing should be banned, i say humans don't fare to well crashing into a brick wall at Indianapolis at 300 MPH either! How many motor racing deaths have there been? Hundreds!!
There are many dangerous sports being played at a professional level, American football is dangerous, (you have 300lb giants crashing into you every week) Get hit by a baseball or cricket ball at close to 100mph and see how it feels !
All sports have tragedies, boxing because of the nature of the sport and it's deliberate attempt to hit the other guy draws more attention to it. The best motor racing driver of the past 30 years Ayrton Senna died traveling at close to 300 mph, he had no chance. I still have visions of the Greg Moore crash.
So many tragedies occur after boxing as we have seen this past month with the untimely deaths of Arguello and Gatti.
Watching the once great Muhammad Ali is painful and sad, listening to Joe Frazier on Friday night fights last year was equally painful as i watched Smokin' Joe slur his words and was almost inaudible.
Here in OZ former Featherweight champ Johnny Famechon was hit by a car and is now in a wheelchair, nobody could land a glove on him but he didn't see the car coming! Wilfred Benitez is a sad story, the Mickey Walker story, there are sadly many, many more.

Just read through the lists quickly so it might have been mentioned.

Johnny Owen, Welsh Bantamweight died in 1980 after his fight with Lupe Pintor when he was KO'd in the 12th. he was in a coma for 7 weeks. he was known as the 'Merthyr Matchstick’

Found this link which has a kind of nice ending to the story in terms of Pintor being forgiven.

The greatest tragedy is the fantastic brave fighters who end up robbed of their money and health, and end up destitute ..... King Levinsky, Beau Jack, Tom Molyneaux, Joe Louis ... the list is endless. No sport has the highs of boxing, and no sport has the lows of boxing - that's why we love it and hate it simultaneously.

yea read that too, and it wasn't THAT long ago for that kind of behavior , i mean if it was in the 1800's or something, it'd still be fucked up but not too shocking

Must've been a typo, cause the entry doesn't make sense. Seemed out of place in the gist of the paragraph. Wikpediai is infamous for these hiccups, as we all know for sure.

I think Jesse James was found in a snake infested swamp, if I remember correctly. Hughes was murdered during the hottest streak of his boxing career.

In an era of everyone getting their 15 minutes, Gilberto Roman truly is grotesquely ignored by even sites as good as this.

Kid Akeem/Quiroga was an amazing fight, sadly Robert was taken from us too early as well....

Though the years Ali has made it quite clear, he wants no one feeling sorry for his condition.

Sure, physically he is deeply affected by his illness, but that razor sharp brain and tongue is still there, as Lennox Lewis found out to his cost, when Ali won the BBC's Sports Pensonality of the (20th) Century award....

Ali has his faith, and he says that keeps him mentally sharp.

I think it was a release for the family when Quarry died, his illness was horrible.

The Oyebola murder truly was one of most senseless killings there have ever been. Big Bad James, had on of the most ironic nicknames in boxing, as he was one of the nice guys, in a sport with many an arse hole.

Was trying to get some tranfers done the other night and watched that Akeem-Quiroga war again. Just brutal and how Akeem just fell out on live tv, laying there. Quiroga was a warrior, saw the match with Borboa on the end and that was just harsh.
Too often too soon, have to say Morrison also. Corrie Sanders. I guess if you have to go though, defending your kids is at the top of the list. Johnny Tapia!!

Stanley Ketchel - got shot by a jealous husband

Jack Johnson - dies in car crash after being refused service at a Dinner in North Carolina on account of his skin color.

Muhamed Ali - Long slow deterrioration with Parkinson's

Duk Koo Kim - Dies in the ring vs Ray Mancini

George Chuvalo - Son dies of overdose and wife committs suicide

Battling Siki - shot twice in the back of the head at the age of 28, perhaps by a police officer who saw him drunkenly staggaring down the street.

Joe Louis - Sucker punched by the US Government and made dirt poor for his Golden Years, battled drug and alcohol addiction and died penniless after being one of the GREAT Civil Rights Leaders.

Ray Robinson - battled drug addiction and Alzheimer's

Trevor Berbick - Killed by being beaten to death with a metal pipe

Ezzard Charles - Died at 53 due to ALS, otherwise known as Lou Gehrig's disease

....can you guys think of any more, I am sure I left out a bunch
Good stuff bud but one correction. Chuvalo lost 3 sons to heroin and then his wife offed herself. How that guy remains so humble and together is well beyond my capacity.
