    Default Tragedies in Boxing

After the deaths of Arturo Gatti and Alexis Arguello and Mike Tyson's daughter, I got to thinking, What tragedies in the boxing world have been the worst or most heartbreaking

Stanley Ketchel - got shot by a jealous husband

Jack Johnson - dies in car crash after being refused service at a Dinner in North Carolina on account of his skin color.

Muhamed Ali - Long slow deterrioration with Parkinson's

Duk Koo Kim - Dies in the ring vs Ray Mancini

George Chuvalo - Son dies of overdose and wife committs suicide

Battling Siki - shot twice in the back of the head at the age of 28, perhaps by a police officer who saw him drunkenly staggaring down the street.

Joe Louis - Sucker punched by the US Government and made dirt poor for his Golden Years, battled drug and alcohol addiction and died penniless after being one of the GREAT Civil Rights Leaders.

Ray Robinson - battled drug addiction and Alzheimer's

Trevor Berbick - Killed by being beaten to death with a metal pipe

Ezzard Charles - Died at 53 due to ALS, otherwise known as Lou Gehrig's disease

....can you guys think of any more, I am sure I left out a bunch

Billy Collins tragic beating and then I think a year later he died.....in an accident I think?

Mike Quarry probably died too young; he liked to take abuse and it caught up with him. That Foster punch didn' prolong his life any that's for sure.

    Not sure if those count.

Another tragedy in boxing is Gerald McClellan who's mostly blind, deaf, and in a wheel chair after his fight with Benn.

Gilberto Roman excellent spr fly champion claimed in an auto crash

Kid Akeem ...just a damn shame and a story of what might have been.

I personally find it a bit hard to consider Monzon's death a tragedy considering he was in prison for killing his wife.

McLellan, Quarry, Corrales, I haven't read through the whole thread but I'm guessing the obvious names are there.

2 local ones I can think of are James Oyebola & John Kacsu Abbey both murdered near the area I live in recent years.

There's also the scores of guys we know nothing about whose lives end in tragedy.

I see Holyfield's desperation as a tragedy in itself, but there's many like him.

    Shit, I feel depressed now.
