Teeth proved my point, still no respect for Williams.....At least Williams is willing to fight people to find out who is better rather than just saying it. Nobody wants to call him out for a reason, his workrate and reach are enough to give anyone problems.. TBH he is doing Martinez a favor by rematching.

THen again based on his Foreman fight, and even before that I think Floyd would handle him easily.

AFter that I would like to see Floyd fight the guy who wins the 140 arguement or Berto. I am not saying I think Berto is better than Williams or Martinez, but I think it's a more interesting fight because honestly I see nothing WIlliams or Martinez could offer to trouble Floyd. At least Berto has that insane speed and combination punching that he lets loose from time to time.
I disagree. I would rather see Floyd fight Martinez or Williams than Bradley or Alexander. What has Berto done at all that is really that remarkable?

Cotto, a man that has looked less and less impressive in recent bouts. And Berto a man that has handspeed but punches and holds like John Ruiz and never seems to get any better. And that's the best Taeth has in line for Mayweather? For sure, it sounds like a way to stay unbeaten, but to be actually tested? Williams and Martinez are FAR tastier. Both bigger men with their own unique challenges. Williams has that output, resilience and size (though he doesn't really use his reach) and Martinez has has athleticism, size and speed. Both men have been on the up, while Cotto is struggling and Berto treading water.

I would like to see Floyd fight bigger men with a run of results and opponents behind them. Berto isn't active or developing and Cotto seems to be on the slide. Williams and Martinez are far more exciting fights for Floyd to be in IMO.

williams and martinez are exactly the kind of defensively incompetent hacks that would make floyd mayweather jr look like the second coming of sugar ray robinson.

pacquiao is the only one with a decent chance

I had a whole long response typed up and decided it wasn't worth it. I don't know how this always happens there is a catch weight fight against two guys that left it all in the ring last time, there is a weight concern in one of the parties which is a good topic of discussion, yet some how it became a topic about Mayweather and Pacquiao, even though there is a snowball's chance in hell Williams or Martinez will ever fight Mayweather of Pacquiao. Not a response to you, a response to bkolz.
For every story told that divides us, I believe there are a thousand untold that unite us.

i completely agree. sorry for adding to the tangent. well, do you think dropping that much weight will affect martinez? do you know if he actually usually does it?

Fightnews now saying Martinez is 'on target'.

Boxing - Martinez on target for Williams

That might well be the case, but he looks a bit flabby in that picture with the punch bag to me. But still a good four weeks away from fight time. A lot of bloaters look like that a good month away from getting in the ring. I am going to assume it won't be a massive problem, but I honestly never expected it from someone like Martinez who always seems like 'Mr reflexes, movement and speed'. You expect it more of the grafters like Hatton and Duran rather than the flashers.

Damage control , few days after the 30 day weigh in where he was 19 lbs over(within requirements)they drop this article, but I still think he is gonna lose some quickness and may fade late. Williams is good shape, not having to lose much weight at all.

Duran was not a 'grafter', he's one of the most technically skilled fighters in the sport's history. He only gets this rep because of his fights with Leonard, where he looked to brawl because his opponent was quicker and more technically adept from range. Seriously, Hatton was more skilled than he gets credit for, but the term grafter is fair for him. Duran it really isn't, the guy was a technical marvel who doesn't get the cred for it because he liked fights to be rough. You can do both.

Anyway back onto the point, I read today on ESPN that Martinez is now at 169. Considering the fight is scheduled to be at 158 & is 3 weeks away, that is definitely doable without doing the body in. If anything I think there maybe a danger where Williams overtrains or his body is coming in as if he's fighting as a LMW rather than a MW, which could see him in a lot of trouble. As for him being overrated, meh, I think he's one of those guys who get underrated by those who aren't fans & well overrated by those who love him. This whole ducking thing is a pile of shite, if he built himself up a following enough to at least sell out where he's fighting then he might have a point. He's got the style, but he lacks the personality big-time.

In response to the above post: Last time I checked this wasnt a popularity contest, but I guess its all about who your promoter is and how many tickets you can sell, compared to actual skill/wins. When is the last time you heard someone call out Paul Williams.....Dzinzurik is the only guy I can remember actually calling him out.

It's ALWAYS been a popularity contest. You have to make it so they can't ignore you, examples go all the way back to Jack Johnson. As for no one calling him out, it just happens someone did today
