Well, most Americans seem to feel Carter was a horrible President, but under different circumstances I think he would have been fantastic (but remember that I'm a godless communist ).

He reminds me of Carter in that he's a very liberal President (something of a rarity in a right-center country like the States) who tried to enact some extremely progressive things but who inherited a terrible economy that he couldn't recover from. They differ in a lot of ways too of course - Obama seems to try to tell Americans who he thinks they want to hear, while Carter flat out told them they needed to change their way of life (and was subsequently crushed by Reagan) - but I think they will both be viewed (rightly or wrongly, and IMO it's wrongly) as one-term failures and, more interesting to me, aberrations in a political system that tends to lean to the right more often that it does the left.
