I'm guessing from what's been said by Hearn that Brook didn't train as hard as he could have.
In the first half of the fight it was all Brook. Good power, good speed. The stamina was not there which can only mean he didn't train hard enough. Having his nose smashed in wouldn't have helped his breathing. Lucky for him he had built up a big enough lead to scrape the win.
He might have struggled but it allowed his chin to be tested, he might not have been in with an elite fighter but he answered questions that night. He can tough it out, he can dig deep when it's all going wrong, he can fight through a broken nose, he can survive when he's tired.
Better to have to answer those questions against Jones than someone like Mayweather.
It's the sort of test Khan could have done with as he was moving towards a title instead of fighting the likes of an old, overweight Barrera and Oisin Fagan and the rest.
Rather see a talent like Brook struggle like he did, get the win and bank the experience, he might need to draw on that again one day. It's boxing, Jones, whatever his record had improved massively of late and came to win. Good fight and will stand Brook in good stead in the future.
